Roof

While traveling in very gusty wind, part of the fiberglass roof blew off. Has anyone out there replaced theirs? Thinking about rhino lining or linexn or possibly roof armour. Any thoughts?

Looks like you should call Winnebago and get their advice. There is a long warranty on the roof and it is a complex/costly job to replace. It would likely have to be done at the factory. Good luck

The warranty is 10 years on the roof. My 2017 Vista 27VE had stress cracks in it and I took it to the Winnebago factory last December for a new roof. With mine they just put a new skin over the old one. Don't trust a dealer to do this job, make the trip to Iowa and have the factory repair guys do the work. If you call customer service they will tell you how far out appointments are being made.

You didn't say what model you have but on my 2000 Horizon 36 I had the same problem. I fixed it my self as the top will just snap back into the rail from the side with very little effort. I did put a bead of sealant/adhesive in the track then replaced the fiberglass. It's
held for 3 years with no problems, even in high winds of Texas.
I don't recommend spraying anything over the old top, get it done right if you can't DIY.

I wouldn't be going over the old top, I will be removing all the fiberglass. I won't be able to reinstall the missing 3' by 5' piece.

There are a lot of folks using the Linex on the roofs of travel trailers, and motorhomes.
They have several colors to choose from.
We still have the original roof, that you are supposed to take in every 6 months to be checked around the edges. I plan to use Eternabond tape over all these edges. I don't like the bi annual checkup thing.

If you are still in the Yuma area, you can check with San Diego RV Center, which is actually in El Cajon, CA. They do the coated Rhinoline type roofs, seen quite a few rigs in there for that. I know one owner that had it done, replaced the rubber roof on his Fleetwood. They promote a lifetime guaranty. They do have a website. I don't know much about the roofs, however I have had other work done there (including a windshield on a previous rig) and I have been pleased with their work.

My 2008 40ft fiberglass roof had to be replaced due to hail. About $19,000 later it was fixed. Insurance covered the cost. It is a flat piece of Filon laid on the roof surface adhesive and rolled to the sides.

Handyrich, I guess by your name you are a handy man do it yourself kind of guy. Me too. Mine is a one piece fiberglass (actually Filon) on a 1992 Elante 33' Class A. The project is currently underway, and I expect it will take another 3 weeks of afternoons and weekends to do it. I used 1/4 inch plywood bonded to -1/2 inch pink foam board. I glued it in a curved shape with PL300 which I spread with a trowel.Good luck with yours, and keep us posted!

Thanks for the videos!! That explains a lot of questions. They do good work, but I'm not convinced that joint sealant was the correct to use on the sides, but I could be wrong.
