Exclamation Replacing carpet

HI; I need to get rid of old carpet. Not on slides. My dogs have ruined the carpet and we need to know if we can just rip up and replace carpet in bedroom and not go under slides? Leave carpet that is already under slides?? we only need the part that is used to be replaced. thanks in advance for any help on this matter. Tired of smelling pee!

We are currently shopping for vinyl flooring. The clear winner for RV's seems to be @ Home Depot. They have a product called Allure Planks with a GripStrip. It's under $3 a sqft. It's a floating floor that adheres to itself. We're currently looking to have one side anchored (under the slides) and let the other side float. We want to anchor under the slides only so there is no chance for that area to raise if the slide floor touches it while moving. To me it's a DIY job but I've also done flooring and carpet before. From my reading it seems that the tear out of the old carpet and tacks/staples is going to be the biggest part of the job. We don't have pets so we're only planning to do the living area and make transitions between that floor and the bedroom carpet (and the cab; we're leaving the cab area carpeted to keep some noise down.)

Yep, BTDT - about ten years ago - the Allure flooring has been fantastic.
And yes, you can cut the carpet, turn it under, and staple it down, run vinyl right up to it, makes a nice transition with the carpet edge. My subfloor was AC plywood, very smooth and easy to cover over with whatever you choose.

It is a DIY job if you're handy - if not there are flooring experts around the country that specialize in RV's. Lots of good info on irv2 on this - use search syntax: 'replace carpet with vinyl site:irv2.com'

(2005 Journey 36g) I have just removed and replaced the vinyl flooring in the kitchen and the carpeting in the kitchen and living area even on the slide out. I replaced it all with vinyl plank flooring. I have been reading about the different slide out glides for carpeting vs vinyl and have seen the glide under the slide when it is extended. How can I replace the one for carpeting to the one for vinyl flooring? Also, I have a level floor slide out, but the floor in the the slide out is not level with the coach floor when it is extended. How can I adjust that?

If you're talking about seaming the two peices together I think you wouldn't be happy with that.
If it were me I would replace the carpet all they way under the slide, to at least out of sight with the slide out.

IIRC the '05 Journey had a level floor, but not completely flush. Perhaps someone with more experience with this can chime in.

Some of those flat-floor slide drop downs were less of a lip but still there somewhat. I couldn't begin to tell you how to adjust a slide-out, but my guess is that if you change that part of it you'll affect other parts of it, like where it sits full-in, at the top, as well as when full out.

I have a 2004 Itasca 40' Diesel, Model 40AD, and my kitchen and bath tile and grout is in excellent condition... so I want to leave it. The bedroom carpet may get replaced with new carpet some other time. My focus is on removing the carpet in the forward area and this is my plan:
* Use a tile saw blade to cut a straight line that runs just behind the table support... and remove the tile in the curved along the passenger side drawers. This will let me butt vinyl planks to the kitchen tile and use a "T-strip" to help with the transition.
* Remove the tile between the two captain chairs and remove the old carpet around the steps.
* I will leave the carpet under the couch on the driver's side... for now. This will save time and money dealing with the driver slide and the flush-floor concerns. However, I may put vinyl on this slide after I start the project. (TBD) The problem is getting to the screws and/or staples that hold down the carpet under the slideout.
* Use Allure Vinyl and run it from the kitchen all the way forward and under the front captain chairs... and then make the steps look clean and modern.

I think vinyl will help the coach look newer and will be easier to clean vs. new carpet. Does any one have a better idea or can offer some advise on what to watch out for?

Frankly, I don't expect any problems pulling the carpet out from under the passenger slide and I think I can place vinyl underneath the slideout TV cabinet and drawers.

I also think using glue around the perimeter and down the traffic strip is a good idea. I know the floor is designed to be floating, but this is such a small area I don't think there will be any problems gluing some of it down. And I'm not worried about the torsional strain on a small area of the floor... like I would be with tile. Note to mention how grout tends to break apart under vibration. I know there are epoxy grouts, but I more sold on using vinyl planes with rubber bottoms and glue strips. Tile weighs more too, but I'm more concerned about things dropping on the floor and chipping tile over time.

The only problem I've had with Allure is that if it doesn't float it comes apart at the seams. Otherwise I think it sounds like a good plan. I like the new hard surfaces on step wells and such, think they look great - but are a lot harder to do than gluing on some carpet.
