On board air compressor

For the last 10 years or so I have carried an air compressor for my tires. Being new to the diesel pusher world with it's built in compressor.
My question, is the compressor able to inflate the tires to 100 psi +/-. And does the motor have to be running.

Our onboard compressor is rated at 120#s but it's very difficult to inflate our front tires to their needed 120#s - and the engine does need to be running. The compressor will inflate our 100# rears - slowly and with engine running.

We carry a portable compressor rated at 150#s.

In my '02 Journey, the air tank is so small, plus the fact that the engine needs to be running, that I've never really tried to use the on board air system except once just after I bought it. I probably should.

And yes, I have to keep the engine running for air of any volume.

This is the setup I use in my 5 years of pusher ownership.
Watch both videos because the first explains how it works and the second makes it easier.

Ps. I probably only need to add air once in the summer and 2-3 times in the winter. TPMS is a must all the time if you don’t have a system...get one!!!

Quick Tire Fill

I recently had to fill an enpty 22.5 tire. Our 2010 Journey filled it to 100psi in 3 minutes. I used the Cruise Control Resume button to boost the idle speed to 1000rpm or higher. Great Feature.

I use my diesel engine to inflate the tires -- an added benefit is that the air you are pumping to the tires when using the diesel engine compressor is that it goes through the air dryer --- therefore you are not putting moisture into your tires. I also use the idle advance on the "smart steering wheel" to increase the idle on the engine to help when adding air.

Good info! I learn so much here! Hubs thinks it all needs to go in a book.

I use the Ellipse's onboard air all the time. It's a little slow, but it inflates to the 110-120 I need.
