Norcold Recall on Adventurer 38G

Looking for info on new Norcold Recall (10E 049) w/Hi Temp Thermocouple with 4 door fridge 1200/1201 LRIM installed in Adventurer 38G. Reason is that some question exists w/the authorized repair shop about time to fix. They are saying it may take longer than 30 min because they may have to move the fridge inboard for access reasons. Has anyone with a 38G experienced this issue? The repair mgr says if it goes beyond 30 min, Norcold will pay all charges, so not a problem w/customer. Thx in advance.

Thudman,
I don't have the same coach that you have but, I recently had my 36' Journey in the shop for the recall. They had to slide the refrigerator to the inside a few inches to complete the recall. The time involved was about one hour total. After finishing, they tested all gas lines and made sure everything was tight before signing off on the recall order. There was no charge to me, everything was paid by Norcold.
Good Luck,
Indiana Journey

I just had my recall completed yesterday. I watched the tech. do the job. We were talking and he said Norcold gives them one hour laboor to do the recall except Winnebagos, they get 1 1/2 hours labor.
The problem he said all other manufacturer have a large outside access door compared to Winnies.
He had to unbolt my fridge and slide it 8-10 inches forward to get some elbow room to install the part.
Its a quick job. They turn on your refer to verify you due indeed have a working refer. Unbolt it, slide it foreward, do thye job, slide it back and relight it to see if its working OK.
Have your Norcold guy call Norcold and verify his labor hours, I think hes confused.

Norcold has only allotted 30 minutes for the newest most recent recall to be installed, however, if for some reason it takes the RV tech longer, they will reimburse the service center the extra amount as long as it's a reasonable amount of additional time.

I would imagine that some coaches as stated earlier would require more time depending on the configuration. Mine was done in about 30 minutes as the tech was already experienced on the procedure and the day they did mine they had installed 5 previously before mine.

The RV service center is NOT allowed to charge the customer for any additional labor costs. It is against the law!

Did not realize it's against the law. How come?

Thudman what type insulation canister do you have around your burner tube?
Not just where they put in switch but the whole burner tube.
When I had the first recall done the canister was replaced with the firmer one because it was part of the kit for recall.
03 coach's with a Norcold the insulation canisters were lace wrap with soft insulating blanket, when you work around it or cut through jacket the wrap will crumble and fall apart.
Therefore they replaced it with the more solid wrap.
Take a look at this TSB and figures 3 & 4 and you will see what they did.
You may have the more solid warp so your OK BUT some people will be short changed with the 2nd recall.
Did they tell you they inspected the heating element area for yellow residue on your recall, which was required on the first recall?

This recall is for every Norcold ever made from 97 up 2011, double doors too four door's.

007, Norcold replaced my entire cooling unit during the last recall because there was the dreaded yellow stuff leaking out. There is no insulation on the collar w/limit switch (last recall), but the burner tube above the collar is wrapped w/insulation that looks to be in excellent condition.

I'm going to repair shop tomorrow to get latest recall done. Will advise.

I too just had my 4 door unit done, they were at first worried they would have to unseal the unit and pull it out to do the fix due to small access opening. But they figured it out and did not have to do that.
Was done at the Winnebago dealer Ramsey Minnesota.

My HR had the recall done last week and it took about 30 minutes and they didn't have to move a thing. I am still adding a fire extinguisher SS30 to the compartment.

I have an 8 cu ft 2 door unit which I did not see as being involved in the recall. I hope that I didn't miss something. Same year and model as yours Thudman. I have a huge pantry to the right of the fridge

DriVer this recall is for Dometic 2 door refrigerators they have the same problem as Norcolds, stress cracks on the burner tubes.
Norcold has a expanded recall which included 2 door fridge 99 to 2000 plus all the 1200 type plus other 2-doors are on recall from 87 to 97.
If yours is a Norcold 2-door you must not have a stressed out burner tube???
Your coach is a 03 if its a Norcold, would say your not included????

I do not know if thats good or bad with Norcold, its something like New England weather.
Every thing around you is on a recall.

Had recall 10E 049 done yesterday. They had to move the fridge inboard about 6 inches for access to accomplish recall. Also had a leak in water supply line to ice maker, so had to fully move fridge into RV to access that issue. Water line (plastic) broken at top of fridge where it connects to another plastic piece, then enters ice maker. When previous repair shop installed new cooling unit last year, did not use any sort of rubber sleeve or bushing----just plastic on plastic with a round metal screw-clamp. So it broke. Parts NIS, so must return & go thru whole drill again. Fun.
