Needing new tires

Just purchased my first motor home. It is a 2006 29' sightseer. The tires are very old and I am going to replace them. The size is 24570R19.5F, currently it has load ratings of F on the back and G on the front. I am somewhat counting on the recommendation of the retailer who does trucks and RVs. He is recommending a 14 ply, but I'm not sure of the load rating. Any recommendations?

I have replaced my 10 YO original Goodyears (same size as yours) with Toyo M143s. Very happy with them. Load Range is H (16ply rating).

skes-

I just replaced the tires on our coach- Michelin XZE 245/70R19.5, load range H. They fit on 6.75-inch-wide rims.

If you are a member of FMCA you qualify for the Michelin Advantage Program. That lowers the cost of the tires by about $50 each.

Is your coach on the Ford, Workhorse P18 or Workhorse W18 chassis?

I replaced my 19.5 Goodyear’s with Sumitomo tires three years ago. I have been happy with them and they were considerably less expensive. I was recently reading that RV specific tires have softer sidewalls for a better ride but I don’t know anyone who has done a true side by side comparison.

Enjoy your 29R!
We love ours. If you have the Ford 18K GVWR chassis, I can say that going to Sumitomo tires from Michelin saved us a ton of money, and didn't hurt the ride one bit.

I bought a set of Urban Dawgs last year. Great price ($1,750.00) for 6. Scroll down the list to find the size. They ride as nice as the G 670's I had as originals.

Toyo tires

Same as you, I bought my used Sightseer a couple of years ago. The DOT cure date codes on the tires showed all of them to be 8-10 years old. I got the best price for my particular size tire from a local Toyo dealer. Full set of 6 tires was a little under $2000. They look great, handle and ride well. Also, I got the "N" speed rating, which is up to 87 mph constant speed.

Simitimo

We replaced ours with Sumitimo - very happy. We got them at a much better price by going to a big rig truck service center, which we now use for all our service - oil changes, alignment, inspections.

Even if you have a low mileage rig with original tires get them off asap - they may look good but known a couple of people who had blowouts and consequently $$$ damage to unit.

If a member of FMCA, their tire program will beat out any tire dealer's price. If not, the savings is well worth the membership.

Tires

Be sure to check and see if the tire discount from FMCA is available in your town. I called them and it's not in Louisville Kentucky Ronnie

You might check out the Dayton D520S All position on-highway tire made by Bridgestone. A quick Google search found at $300 ea.

Thanks for advice

I ended up with Sumitimo, based on conversations with my local dealer that has a fairly large truck and bus tire business. Sounds like I made it just in time, he said there was a tire that was about to blow as it had a bulge in the inside. Thanks again for the helpful comments. Looking forward to our maiden voyage in another week.

Not true at all!

Do your own shopping I walked into 3 Dealers for new Michelin tires. I needed the 275/80R22.5 LRH X Line Energy Z - Product Code 66205.

Dealers quoted me:
Dealer 1 - $535.50
Dealer 2 - $615.00
Dealer 3 - $543.00

FMCA discount price $556.59

Just had them put on 2 months ago and never bothered with the FMCA. Make sure you are shopping apples to apples - using the product code. Many of the Dealers first tried to quote me load range G - easy mistake and a lot cheaper tire.

I like WIT and sorta even like FMCA, but join them because you like to belong, not because you think you are getting great bargains
