Meridan question newbie

New member from ireland looking for advice. Meridan 36g, Cat C7. Can upshift into 6th be changed from 55mph to 50 mph. This change would occur approx 1500rpm instead of 1700rpm. and would suit driving condictions here

Welcome to the USA from Ireland. If I was you, I'd contact Freightliner, Catepillar, and or Allison and see if the transmission can be reprogrammed to shift in to 6th earlier. I'd start with Freightliner. The torque curve on the C7 builds as the engine slows down. One question may be if he transmission can handle the increased engine torque in 6th gear, but I would be surprised if it couldn't.

Catepillar and Allison would be the big decision makers.

I thought the economy mode (Mode Button) did establish a second set of shift points and that they are lower than the normal mode. I do know that it can be programmed and that some manufacturers request a specific second set of parameters for the economy mode.

I believe that the economy mode actually assumes 100% throttle and reduces the shift points as if it were at 80% throttle (fools the unit to prevent failures) and this lowers the shift points.

Then again, I am old and do not remember as much as I used to and may be all wet, just look at my Avitar!

Pressing the MODE button, once, should put the Allison in econ mode, will also turn on a red indicator light nearby.
Starts in Regular mode, will have to be put in econ mode after each start.

On my 2008 Jourrney it goes something like this:

Regular mode, light throttle, shifts into 6th around 61 MPH
full throttle, has not shifted yet @ 75 MPH

Econ mode, light throttle, 6th @ 55 MPH
full throttle, 6th @ 55 MPH

I can't remember where I read it ... ... but if my memory serves me correctly ... Allison techs can reprogram your transmission on several parameters ... including

a) the gear it shifts into when the exhaust brake comes on

b) the conditions that have it shift into (and out of) 6th gear (overdrive)

If your peak engine torque is above 1500 rpm, I'd recommend against it to prevent lugging the engine in your second OD gear.

My 2004 Meridian also doesn't shift into 6th gear until reaching 55 MPH. I would like it lower, even 52 MPH would help on some of the slow traffic level roads.
But in one of the other Forums someone stated that when the 6th gear shift speed is lowered it also lowers the shift speed for the other 5 gears. It seems you can't just pick one gear to change, they all change the same amount.
