I know others will have more detailed info but I just spent a weekend (Fri-Sun) in ours and the 1st night I goofed up and had both furnaces running temps around 26 or so. Stayed nice and warm but used a bit of propane. Second night I used just the rear furnace and the fireplace and stayed just as warm with temps around 28 and very little propane usage. Windows are double pained an felt like the insulation was more then enough for occasion cold weather usage. If I was to be in freezing temps for an extended period I'd definitely ad an Extend A Stay T and a 100 lb tank.

The Ellipse can be ordered All-Electric which means Aqua Hot heating powered by diesel fuel. Keep your tankful when checking into your winter campsite and you'll have heat for months.
Not only that but, it heats the basement compartments pretty well too.

Thanks, I am looking for a larger MH when I came across the two I mentioned. Price wise they seem to be less than what I was originally looking at. Do they have, or has anyone had problems. Or I am open to suggestions. Thanks Again

I strongly suggest that you buy used. The quality control of Winnebago is not what it used to be. Once you get beyond the QC issues these are nice coaches. The 40U is no longer made but you might find one used. For a bigger version of this great floorplan you could consider the QD. In both models there have been slide issues but most of the problems have been resolved by the slide mechanism manufactures. The Itasca brand name died this year but the model named remain under the Winnebago name. Same coach. Different options when buying used like model to like model, Itasca or Winnebago. Most of the differences are in color choices and furniture styles.

Have you been on the Winnebago site yet? Winnebago Product Information | Motorhome & RV Information

Choose a year and model you would like a brochure for and download it. This will give you a little more info. But, seeing the actual coach first hand is always fun.

Happy trails,
Rick Y

We routinely use our Ellipse QD at low 20s temps - no hoses out - AH at 68 - fireplace at 68 - 1500 watt cube heater in bedroom - basement set at 45. No problems ...

We have lived in our MH for two seasons in Reno and not had a lot of trouble with the cold. RV's by their nature are not made for extreme temps either hot or cold. Our Ellipse is a few years old and does not have a fireplace or propane heaters. The heat pump is useless for temps under 45 degrees, however the AquaHot does a good job down into the low 20's lower then 20 you need help from an electric heater. I did meet one RVer who had a gas heater plumbed to his propane tank which worked great.

One week the temp was down to +4 during the day and -4 at night. That was to cold for us to live in as the most we could get the inside temp to was maybe 40. My wife and I fled into the casino hotel for the week. I kept the AquaHot running while we were gone and the only damage was the water in the water filter froze and broke the water filter off. A quick and easy repair in sub freezing temps working with water not!

My next coach will have in floor heating that cold tile sucks.
