Dash a/c condenser crud 2005 34H journey

Great forum! When we first got the 34H Journey 4 months ago I noticed the dash a/c condenser in the rear behind the driver was oily and crudy so I gave it the Simple Green. After 20 hrs of driving, and not all with the a/c operating, I cleaned it again today.

The outside of the fans down to the bottom condenser fins was oily and collected more crud. The oil residue is an amber color, like engine oil. I visually checked for leaks after running the dash a/c for a while but didn't notice anything. Dash a/c is really cold and the fans come on so I would think that if it's an a/c leak then the a/c system wouldn't be functioning properly. Looking up from behind the condenser the rest of the engine is clean and dry.

Before I spend $$$ looking for a problem that may not exist I'm wondering if this is residue from the near by diesel exhaust or unseen breather and I just have to clean it up once in a while.

Sounds like a hydraulic leak from the bedroom slide. Look above the condenser unit on the inside and see if any of the fitting are leaking. Does not take much.

My previous coach was an 03 34HD. It's also possible to have a leak inside the slide actuator arm so see if any oil is dripping from it as well.

Thanks all, I've checked the slide actuator and can't see any leaks. The fluid in the hydraulic powerpack is red and the residue is not red. We're taking it it to ME this weekend and I'll pay more attention to it while running the dash a/c. I'm thinking it's a condensor leak.

If it is the condenser leaking, you probably won't have cold air very long. It don't take long for all the freon leak out.

Thanks all, the good news is not the dash a/c and we can use it this weekend. It's the bedroom slide actuator which spits fluid upon retraction. I'll just keep the area clean and tend to it next week. Have a great weekend!

Is it the actuator or the direction valve located above the A/C fins?

Jeff, Thanks for the reply. Looking up behind the condensor there is a hydraulic valve that is mounted fore and aft. Is that the direction valve? There are no visible leaks on that valve or what I can see of the cylinder that moves the slide in and out. It's definitely not the dash a/c because it worked fine during last weekends trip to ME.
