Bike Rack on a Journey

I’m preparing for our first big trip in our 08 Journey. Our kids will be traveling with us and we’d like to take our bikes.
I purchased a four bike rack that fits in the receiver hitch. I also bought a four bike cover.

I’m a bit concerned about having the bikes in direct line of the radiator exhaust. I’ve fabricated a riser that keeps everything above the radiator.

I certainly don’t want to do anything that could increase the engine coolant temperature.

Am I worried about this for no reason?

Does anyone have experience in this area?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

JK

Sorry, can’t figure out how to rotate the picture.

Do you need a ladder to get the bikes up there? LOL I use a standard bike rack on our 05 Vectra rear radiator like the Journey. It has no effect on the cooling and I don't have to lift them over my head.

How far from the radiator are the bikes?

I’ll need an extension to move them bake a bit.

Did you have any trouble with heat on the bikes?

The rack folds down to load them. My riser didn’t make it imposible to load but yes I was planning on using a ladder.

Thanks for the info.

I use this bike rack and I don't see any evidence of 'baking' of the bike. Easy on/off setup so I don't have to strain too much to lift the bike.

That’s great news! I may just look for a 12” extension and go with that. I have a good four bike cover.

Thank you for the info and pic!
