jnl,

I had a 2003 Itasca Suncruiser 35U that I put over 50k miles on before trading it in this past June. So some of this may apply.

Only recall I had was that the dashboard computer had to be reprogrammed and something minor with the catalytic converter.

Problem-wise, there are MANY posts about Workhourse chassis W22 brake problems. I only had problems with the ABS warning lights going off for no known reason. Radiator cap failed within first 10k miles. I also broke a serpentine belt last November and had to be towed. Any other problems, I would consider normal wear and tear.

There are a number of websites where you can get recall details for your specific model. Also use the 'Find' button to locate other posts that deal with this model.

Good luck!

The problem with the Bendix brakes did not extend past the '03 model year. I had an '01 Monaco that had that recall.

NHTSA recalls that MAY affect the vehicle:
04V195000 - dash reprogram
04V609000 - fuel line chafing (20,700# and up chassis)
05V407000 - applies only to optional 4-door refrigerators

Thank you for the information on recalls. This is our first purchase and we are unsure of what we are getting into. The price is $68,400 (10,000 miles)WH 20. There is some rust around the storage compartments openings (inside), but was told normal aging and the dealer will grind off and repaint.

Just a thought. Have you looked at NADA and
other guides to check the cost?
IMHO looks a little high at that price.

Has there been any brake work done on it. I would check before I bought it.

What seems to be reasonable is low retail in the NADA Guides with no options added. With slower sales, I'd make an initial offer about 15% under low retail.

Low retail is $59,160.

Trade in would be something like 10% under that, around $53,000.

Of course, options, colors, condition and things like that, matter to YOU, and have to be taken into account in YOUR purchase.

And one other thought. "Only 10,000 miles" sounds good, but also means it probably sat a lot. That makes me nervous. Buy it for a price you like if you want it. Then enjoy it. (And get some miles on that odo! Our '04 is over 40,000 now, and I wish we could use it more.)

I think the price is high. Good advice about making a counter offer. Start off asking for a large dicount. As the buyer you can always go up. 15% off is good and I think doable. Rattle their cage and start off offering 20% off.

Tell them you're not sure about an 04 rig with only 10,000 mi. on it. It's probably been sitting on the lot for who knows how many years. Turn it into a negative. Tires are probably 5 years old too. at 6 you got to buy new ones for safety.

If you're not in a hurry look around. It's a buyers market. You have all the power.

BTW I have 26,000 mi. on mine already and we're leaving this friday on a 2 month trip to the East Coast. The more I use it the better it get's. MH have to be used as much as posible or they start having all types of problems.

Good luck
Tom

That price is high and low miles in this case is a negative not a positive. Best advice is don't be in any hurry and keep on looking, as there are many units to be had in todays market at a very good price. Good Luck.

Sounds like the advice is to pass on this one.

Low mileage and rust around storage from sitting (inside doesn't look worn), would need new tires, and price is too high. The dealer ran the recall sheet for this vehicle and nothing is outstanding... One owner through this dealer. We could probably ask the orignally owners if there was any brake work done, but if it wasn't taken on the road much... maybe the problem has not shown up yet.

I am a little confused on how to look at the NADA pricing. Do I just use the low retail w/o options added or do I add the options listed (have original sales sheet w/options listed $128,000) and then use that low retail as the starting point? Also, the NADA page on the unit says included were such and such and then when you look at the check off items they are listed again, so do I check them off even if the narrative says they are included. It's a little confusing.

When I get the low retail pricing... Offer 15% lower than that???

Low retail w/o options is the way to look at it. It is ahard to figure the options. You ahve to read at the top of the pag, for any standard items on the coach. Do not include them in any case.

If the coach meets you rneeds, I'd start out seriuosly, 15 to 20% below LOW RETAIL and NO options.

A friend of mine got the 33' equivalent model in March for $58,000. 27,000mi perfect condition. He got it in Texas. He did discover one problem, a miss when pulling hard. Turned out to be a melted spark plug wire. Another friend bought a 2003 38' model with only 10,000mi. He paid $68,000, but they gave him more than his 95 Minnie Winnie was worth ($27,000). He has had several issues, dash air, HWH jack problems and a slide problem. He now has everything like new except the slide doesn't go all the way in. He will be taking it to Forest City to fix that. Over all he is very happy and finds it more compfortable to drive than the Minnie Winnie.
