2000 journey vs 2001 journey dl

Hi, looking at buying our first MH. We have the chance at 2, the first is a 2000 journey 36g with 70k miles this has the 275hp with 4 spd allison, tne other is a 2001 journey dl 36 ld this has 70k as well but has the 330hp with 6spd allison electronic. The layout in both is workable for us. The 01 is a couole of $k more. Any thoughts from those that have these. Will be doing a 7k mile holiday trip rte 66 next year coming back via salt lake and Denver. Possible becoming fulltimers post this trip.

thanks in advance

If the choice were mine, I'd go for the '01 with the 330 horse Cat and the six speed. Make sure to check the maintenance records for regular servicing and any repairs completed.

We have the 01 36LD Journey and really like it. Plenty of power, 7.5+ miles to the gallon at 63 to 65 mph towing our car on a flatbed trailer. The 6 speed Allison is nice to have when going up hills. I don't know about the 2000 Journey, but we're pleased with the 01 Journey DL. Over 18 thousand miles in the last 2.5 years. Really like the basement A/C and the low clearance for getting under trees. The choice is yours but I vote for the the 2001 Journey DL.

I have an 03 Journey 36GD 330hp cat 6 speed for 10 years now. Used to be a Winnebago salesmen. The rig works fine for us, 2x to California and unknown trips to Florida from NJ. We do some where around 8mpg with a car on the back. One thing you realy must check is the skin. Winnebago, and others, have a problem with delamination. The 03 Journey woun't do that because they used Vectralite?? for the outside skin, no luan, wood, in the walls. So before you spend your hard earned $$ that would be a good question. I don't remember what year they started using it but the high line Vectra was first then they started the Journey. You woun't be sorrry.

We have the 03 36DL Journey with the 330 Cat and 6 speed transmission and love the power and smoothness of that combination. Like others have said the extra gears really make a difference.

We drive a 2000 Journey, had to add a Banks Power Pack to get power I needed (wanted?), really miss the 6 speed I had in a previous MH. But overall very pleased with the Journey, would do it again in a heart beat. Bought it with 32,000 6 years ago, just rolled over 95,000. Still runs like a champ.

I have a 2000 Journey and love it! My first trip in it was from western NY to NJ and then to Jekyll Island, GA, and then back. We made the return trip through the mountains of VA and West Virginia. I never lacked power to climb the hills and averaged 10.5mpg over the trip while running the genny during travel so I could use the AC. I would make the same purchase again. The engine has 125,000 miles on it and it runs like a watch.

We have the 330 Cat and 6 speed transmission ... we bought it new in 2004 ... we now have about 117,000 miles ... we have been in the 4 corners of the lower 48 in it ... across the Rockies a dozen times ... we tow a car ... we have averaged 8.28 mpg towing at about 62-64 mph.

Great engine / transmission combo.

For a couple of thousand I'm enough of a gearhead I'd go for the power, etc. For $20k it'd make me think more... but for small change, the ability to climb hills, etc., would be well worth it, especially for resale down the road.

Had an '01 Journey 32T with the Cummins ISB275 and loved it. Served us well for 13 years and 135K miles. Across country several times and several trips from Cali to Denver, over the Rockies, etc. Great rig and very reliable.

We had an 02 Journey w the 330 cat and Allison 6 spd. It drove like a dream and had more than enough power to do anything you need.
