09 Tour 40TD retracting jacks sounds

This may be a stupid dp newbie question, but we'll ask anyway.

As we were setting up yesterday in our first park after leaving our dealership's town, we pulled into a site that was so slopey that it required us to go through the leveling process several times. Every time we retracted the jacks we heard a couple of loud popping sounds that sounded like a neighbor dropping wood blocks. (That's what we thought it was at first!) Now that we know the sound was coming out of rig, we want to know what it is - retracting jacks or refilling airbags? And, is it normal or something we should be concerned about?

After just one day on the road, we absolutely love our new Tour. Compared to our Voyage, it's a whole new ballgame!

Thanks so much for your help. Safe travels!

Paul and Mary

It might be the heavy springs that are on the sides of the jack pistons. I have a 2007 Tour 40TD and sometimes I'll hear a pop when the jacks retract.

We love our Tour too. Leaving tonight for a long weekend in Gatlinburg.

congrats on the new toy!!! The noise could be the air bags or the jack springs. Mine makes that same noise on occasion.

I have been told ...

I have been told that the jack attachments have some lateral "slack" in them ... and when your coach is on a different attitude when on the suspension from the attitude when it is on the jacks ... the jacks "adjust in their attachment to the rig" ...

I think this is true ... if I drive into a site that is nearly level and deploy my jacks I hear nothing ... but if the site is unlevel or torqued then I sometimes hear the same noise that you describe ...

Thanks so much for your helpful replies!

We, too, have noticed that the popping sounds only occur when we are in unlevel sites, especially when the back jacks really have to extend. On more level sites, we don't hear a sound.

We're going with the thought that this is all normal.

Thanks again!

Jack noises

We have an 08 Tour 40TD and I've heard a couple of pops and figured it was the retracting springs so I'll agree with the rest, don't worry.
We love our Tour TD, the floor plan was exactly what my wife wanted, we bought it at a great price and we'll be full time in early 2010, or as soon as the house sells.
See ya on the road....

The loud popping is now exclusive to the Tour either. We have the 40TD Vectra, and it makes the same noise. You would swear something broke sometimes.

Yep, I think it's normal. We have the Ellipse which is the sister ship to your coach and we get it all the time. It's scary but normal.
