08 Voyage A/C

My A/CV died. Worked just fine and then just started blowing warm air. I need some ideas since from Fort Knox, Ky to Olympia ,Wa it may be a warm ride.

Finhawk, I believe you have roof air units is that correct?

Pretty sure he has a basement unit on a '08 Vorager DriVer.

Whaler, I expect that you are right however I know that some models below Adventurer were going back to roof air.

According to the WIT manager last month, all 2011 Winebagos will have roof air.

Finhawk, start by checking the breakers, compressor 1 & 2.

This rig has a heat pump.
I guess I should have been more specfic----Sorry Folks.
It's the dash air that bought the farm
I wonder why they're going to roof air next year? I think the basement unit is just great!

Have 2008 Voyage. I only use dash air ONCE a month for (10) minutes to keep the rubber seals from drying out. If I need AC while driving, I turn the generator on and use the Heat Pump for AC. The coach actually uses less gas with the Gen Set than when the dash AC is on. I am currently at Winnebago factory getting some work done and did the factory tour. They are going to roof air exclusively in 2011 because of RV trends and customers claiming the basement air can't keep the coach cool enough down south during summer and in the heat of the Southwest. The roof air which is cold is easier to distribute DOWN than it is to PUMP "UP" from the basement air. Mine worked fine in the Southwest at 80-90, but I have never been there when it is 100-110 degrees. Also found out there is a "45" foot DP prototype coming off the assembly line in about a week for testing all over the USA.

That's what I did on the way from St Louis to Forest City. It kept the coach a lot cooler and I still got over 6.5 mpg.

Just got a chance to check my email. I am at the camping area under the trees next to the service check in area. We're leaving tomorrow at 8 AM heading to NASACR race in Michigan. They did $2,000 of "good will" warranty work on my 2 slides that haven't worked all the time since I got the coach. I am 3 days out of warranty but they saw the previous attempts to fix them. In addition to you, there are (3) of us "Voyageurs" down here near service area. They only made the Voyage for 4 years so to see this many at one time is unusual. Good Luck.

my bad. sounds like you are fixed and on your way. enjoy your trip. interesting stuff on a/c basement. I have found the a/c runs 24/7 when the temps hit 100. I do like the heat pump when it is cold. Sorry for any confusion.

By the way, have you tried to check your generator oil. Looks like I need to remove the panel door and other complications just to check it on my 33ft voyage. Am also trying to clean spark arrestor. That is a challenge. Never gave thought to these items when I purchased the 2008 model.

The heat pump is fantastic but Winnibago is going to roof air in 2011. They should have asked for opinions from those of us that own their rigs before making a change like that.
As far as the gen set, it's no big deal. I changed the oil and filter on mine with no problem. The access cover comes right off but it does take a tug or two.
I think the Voyage is a great rig. I haven't found anything to dislike about it. Mine even got us out of the flood in Nashville----knee deep water---with no problem at all

I guess because mine is a 33ft that the compartment is smaller than the size of the generator cover. One side of the cover is constrained because it is longer than the compartment is wide. Basically requires trip to the dealer to check the oil, unless I am missing something.

Also can't locate the spark arrestor, which needs to be cleaned every 50 hours. Am guessing that it is also accessed via opening the

gen cover.

My spark arrester (Onan 5.5KW) is cleaned out via a plug from under the coach.

I did it. Got the cover off and cleaned the spark arrestor. It was a good day

This tread began with a/c. I recently put a shower curtain behind the driver/passenger seats and close off from the rest of the RV when I use the chassis a/c. It seems to help as I no longer need max a/c to stay cool. I went through one compressor the first year driving around Texas in the hot summer. I supplement with the gen as needed to keep temps comfortable before stopping for lunch or final resting stop.
