07 Journey 34H bedroom TV removal

Does anyone know how to remove the analog flat TV in the bedroom of the 07 Journey 34H. Do you just have to remove the 6 Star head screws in the metal plate behind the TV? I can see the screws, but can't get to them straight on the TV is in the way. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Scott

I have a 06 Journey 36G, so I'm not sure if what I say I did will actually help you. On my unit, the TV was held in place by a "U" shaped metal band that went around the top of the TV, left to right. That band was attached to the TV alcove's wooden base on each side via through bolts. The bolts were accessible when the false bottom of that alcove was removed via 5 or 6 screws around its perimeter. There was a small light attached to the false bottom that illuminated the counter top of the chest of drawers below the TV. The light drops down with the false bottom. The worst part of the removal was dealing with the double faced tape that was sandwiched between the top of the TV and the metal band. Whatever the adhesive they used was some powerful stuff. The TV had to be loosened from the band, and then slid out because the band, even unbolted, was too wide to get through the front opening of the cabinet. The TV had to come out first, and then there was enough room to remove the band.

Start by taking off the wood surround around the flat panel TV. You should then be able to see the screws which hold on the metal TV mount, remove them, pulling off the mount and TV.

Thanks Dan, but I think the 34h is a much different instillation. It's a early model flat screen that's not digital ready and mounted in the wall..

Pusherman I don't think its possible to remove the wood trim without removing the tv first. I'm sure the wood trim was installed before the tv.
Thanks Scott

Try it. You might be surprised. That's how I did mine.

Pushman did yours look like this? Can you tell me how you removed the trim?
Thanks Scott

Yes, same trim. Different TV.

My tech actually did the work for me (I own an RV shop), but I believe the trim was actually friction mounted with no hard fasteners.

I don't recommend trying to pry off the trim and breaking it, but I'm pretty sure that's how he did it. I know today I can pull the trim off today and it's only friction mounted.

I mounted a 19" LCD HDTV in it's place. If I were to do it again, I'd put in a 22".

I won't be able to confirm how he got the trim off until after the holidays, as we're now on break until 1/2/14. Let me know if you want me to follow up with him for you.

Pusherman that would be great you you followed up on this. I would love to put a 22" in there. I can see the star head screws that hold the mounting plate but can't get to them. I also thought I could get to it from the cupboard behind it, but I don't think that will work.

What Pusherman said. That is exactly how I removed and replaced mine in our 34H.

Exactly what Don said.

Here's the 24" LED replacement.

Yah! I got it out! Thanks for all the help, it's like a picture frame inserted in the wall, came right out with a little effort.
Thanks Scott

Points:
  • Those are Phillips head, not star. At least mine was.
  • The frame went in after the TV. After all, thats whats covering the screws.
  • Find something like a rigid putty knife or SMALL crowbar and lightly pry on the frame. It will come out in one piece.
  • BEFORE PROCEEDING.. Consider what you are going to feed the new TV with? Off air is already there. But if you want to route an HDMI cable to it from the front Sat Rx/ DVR, etc., might as well do it at the same time, or you'll be going down this road again.
  • The pix above are a 24" LED (not 22"), which as you can see, fits nicely. I might have been able to squeeze a 26" in there.
  • Proceed at your own risk..

Jeff, nice fit on your 24" TV. My 19" is waaayyyyy too small. I think I'm now inspired to replace it with the 24". Looks like a tight fit, but it really looks good.

I seem to remember both Jeff and I ran HDMI from the bedroom TV to the left front cabinet up front so the sat box can run both TV's. It's a job, but it can be done.
