Wires in walls

Hello all,

We would like to drill holes in our walls to hang things. However, there is some concern that there may be some wires inside. Best I can tell from the Winnebago drawings for our coach the 2 walls of interest are clear of wires. We would feel better it we could confirm this. Does anyone have experience with those automotive wire finders, that use a sender and a receiver? They range in price from $30 to $1000. Of coarse I want the $30 one, but does it work thru RV walls.

I would appreciate your advice.

Thanks,

I use a regular stud finder and so far, so good...no issues.

The Winnebago service line may be able to guide you. They've been really helpful on different issues. 800-537-1885

we use a lot of those as well but sometimes, especially for heavier items, only a good nail will do.

Winnebago will send you drawings of your walls. One of the pages shows the foam and the channels cut in it for wires.

Would you beleve "Thers's an App for that"... Yup, my smart phone (Samsung Galaxy series) has many sensors in it.. one is sensitive to magnetic fields and such which are commonly assoicated with wires.

A "metal Detector" app, uses these sensors, actually works.

Page 2:
It is very hard to drill into a wire in a wall.. First if you are hanging stuff you may wish to search for STUDS.. Wires may lie beside them but not in them as a rule.

And you can use a "Drill Stop" so you only drill like a quarter inch into the wall.. Or less, those walls make thin look thick after all.

Better safe than sorry. Recently had a new roof put on and a screw found its way into a wire bundle under the rear of the roof.Killed all the lights in the bedroom. One in a million they said.
Running new wire in a MH no fun.
