Water Heater

Do you leave the water heater running all the time, or only when you need it?

Depends on if it's gas or electric or both. When I had a wh that was gas only, I turned in on in the morning for a couple of hours, back on around dinner time, and off again at bedtime. I see little benefit for keeping water hot by burning propane when not in use.

My current mh has a wh that was designed for gas but p.o. install a hot rodd element which is very low power draw and I leave it on all the time. I will also turn on the gas if we are going to take showers as it helps speed recovery.

Same here...but we only used propane once with four adults onboard. Normally we use LESS than the six gallons heated electrically...especially in hot weather. More hot water used for dishes than anything else. Recovery is under two hours.

My WH is both elec and propane. If I am on elec. I leave it on. Propane, I turn it off, if I'm going to be out for a while.

On electric leave it running all the time. On gas only when needed. Run it on gas only when needed if I am on a pricey power meter. Have run it on both when I needed a quick heat or re-heat.

If on electric, leave it on. If on propane, turn it on in the morning when you get up and in the evening before dinner. One thing you didn't mention...does yours stay hot when you're driving? Some of us have the WH that's heated by the engine hoses too when driving.

Mine is gas only. We turn it on in the morning when we get up for breakfast and washing up. Then it's off until dinner. We turn it on then for dishes and showers, then off for the night. It heats up fast enough it's not an issue to only use when needed.

For those of us who have Motor Aid on our coaches the water is kept hot while driving, I turn my water heater on to gas or electric after a reach my destination. It is already hot so it will not draw any power until it cools off some. If I am dry camping I will not turn on the HWH until the next morning when we need it.
