We have just received our 06 Adventure 38J and are in the process of getting it ready. An electrician friend of mine said that if you check the electrical outlet at a campground there is no reason to have a surge protector. Any comments.
Thank you in advance.

So, you test the outlet and it is OK. 4 hours later, there is a big surge in the line. Or, the place fills up after you do your check, everbody turns their AC's on, and there is an unanticipated voltage drop.
Surge protectors are like any other insurance. Bad events may not always occur but replacing a TV, computer, AC compressor, etc. is a lot more expensive than a surge protector.

That is very good advice from smlranger. You also could have a mega-surge induced via lightning.

Yup, in the powerplant business, we call that a brown-out. Things can happen over the power distribution lines that feed your RV park at anytime. We've replaced a couple of our customers appliances do to some unfortunate circumstances but could have been prevented by the customers use of surge protectors. I've got them all over my house. A pound of prevention......
See ya,

On one trip to a State Park we had a storm come thru one night. Lightning hit close to a transformer and when the power returned my Surge Guard tripped out. Everyone else's power came on. When I measured the power at my hook up it was WAY high, which was what caused the Surge Guard to trip.
I contacted the ranger station and they took a look and confirmed the high voltage and called the power company.
Everyone else had their rig being hit with too much voltage and didnt know it.
Had my unit not tripped no one would have known the diference, the power company would not have been called, and it would be a possiblity that several folks would have had air conditioners and other items hurt by running too long on the hot power.
I dont know how many folks had things begin to give them problems later down the road due to the high voltage, but I am sure there would have been more if the problem had not been resolved.
In this case the Surge Guard not only saved my bacon, but I am pretty sure it did the same for others.

Go for the surge protector. The coach two sites down form us at GNR had $230 worth of damage done to it because of a braker problem. Two other coaches also had damag, but not as much.

Just a dumb question. I have 50 amp but park in some sites that only have 30 amp. Do I need two surge protectors ( 30 & 50 amp)?
