Power management control panel

On my 04 Adventurer should the power management panel show the current draw when plugged into shore power? Currently it only shows the current when on generator power?

It doesn't show while on 50 amps but does on 20 or 30 and generator.

X2!

If it's working normally you definitely will have current readings on any power coming except 50 amp.

I agree. There should be a publication entitled "Powerline Energy Management System Owners Guide" in the brief case that came with the motorhome. The guide mentions that the display will be operative on 20 amp shore power, 30 amp shore power and when the generator is running. It's blank when on 50 amp shore power.

Here's a link to the installation and service manual just in case you didn't get it when you purchased the coach:

http://janeandjohn.org/docs/EMSmanual.pdf

Page 2 under the heading "Operations in Vehicles Equipped With 240V AC 50 Amp Service" explains how the display works.

throbbin367, do you have any breakers tripped or turned off on your AC power panel?

Grtharris. I did have one breaker off, so I turned it on and started the gen and it displayed the amp reading. So why did the display work when I was plugged in to my house

throbbin367, all I know for sure is the EMS panel monitors power from the Water Heater and Refrig breakers to determine if you are connected to a 50 amp or 30 amp service. What is your service at the house?

I'm not sure exactly. I just plug a normal extension cord into one of the outlets on my house so probably only 20 or 30. I always change the control to 20 just in case

Clifftall has provided the correct answer.

Simply put, because the load is sensed on the neutral leg, an accurate load can only be displayed on those sources (20, 30, and gen). When connected to normal 50A service, the number displayed would be the difference between the two legs and therefore not relevant in most cases. That's why they blank it.

My display does not show amps when connected to 50 amp shore power nor with the generator running. I can understand why there is no display with 50 amps, but why not with the generator running. My only theory is that since the generator is a 8000W model, it is capable of producing at least 50 amps, and therefore the display treats it like 50 amp shore power.
By the way, 50 amp shore power actually is capable of producing 50 amps on each of the two legs for a total of 100 amps. This will run everything in my coach, so there is no need for the power management system to ever shut down an appliance.
