New 27n/F53 with 6 speed

I took delivery of my new 27n today. Did the walk through and noticed a couple of minor things.
The windshield had a small crack that the dealer noticed. They had already ordered a new windshield, but it will take a few weeks for it to arrive.
After cycling the jacks, I put them in the retract mode and they came up, but two idiot lights on the panel were flashing. I believe that the system needs to be reset, but I did not have time to do it. The tech couldn't fix it either. It will be addressed when the windshield is replaced.
I am planning to do some dry camping, supplemented with solar, but I was sad to see that the house batteries were very small. I did not get the amp hr ratings, but they were about the size of a motorcycle battery. Upgrades in my future!
I drove the rig to a storage site a few miles away. There was a noticeable "tail wagging the dog" and the rig liked to follow the ruts in the road. CHF and a steering stabilizer are in order.
The new 6 speed worked well and it felt like it had sufficient power. The engine was quiet when accelerating, however the wind noise from the windshield was a little louder than I expected.
Overall, I found the fit and finish to be quite good. I did not find any cosmetic issues that bothered me. Best of all, the wife absolutely loved it.
For those that have not followed the Ford website, it appears that they now rate the 2016 V10 at 320 HP, versus the old rating of 362 HP. Winnebego still lists the engine at 362. This discrepancy was forwarded to Winnebego and the dealer rep, but I have not yet received clarification.
I hope to be able to spend some time with the rig tomorrow and do a little more exploring.
Best regards
Bill

I you may be the first to have a F53 6-speed in the wild. Just to confirm the shift indicator shows PRND421 not PRND321?

Keep us updated on how it runs, specifically I am interested on fuel mileage.

BILL: Congrats on the new coach. Please let us know what you learn about the HP rating. Surly Ford didn't de-rate the engine to protect their new tranny????

It looks like it has been adjusted to move more usable power down in the rev range. Power peak was at 4750, now it is lower and at 4000. Torque peak is up incrementally but at 3000 now instead of 3250.

My guess:
This engine didn't make satisfactory power in the old tune to cruise comfortably in 6th at the new, lower revs.

I do have the correct shift lever and the supporting documents for the 6 speed. I won't get a chance to take it out for another week or so to get a good feel for everything, so I won't be able to check the mileage.

I am going to try and figure out the satellite wiring and get the Direct TV to work today. I bought a G2 portable dish and I am a little confused about the sat wires. The diagram didn't help me much so I will plug it in and see what works!

Best regards

Exactly. By moving the usable HP lower in the RPM range it will behave a little more like a diesel or like the Workhorse setup. Should be pretty nice.

Congratulations. Enjoy.

According to Winnebago my 2016 Sightseer 33C is in final inspection. I was told that a coach can spend up to a week in final inspection. My guess is they test and repair defects prior to sending it to a dealer. Hopefully there were very few defects on our coach.

The sales rep said that it should ship by the 8/14. So it should arrive either this week or next depending upon when it leaves the factory.

I had a trac bar, sway bar, and Safe-T-Plus installed on our old 2006 Sightseer 29R. According to the dealer and Camping World the only hardware that would fit our new coach is the Safe-T-Plus steering dampner. As a part of our deal the dealer will transfer my two year old six volt batteries, the Safe-T-Plus dampner, and install a new trac bar, sway bar, and compressor for my toad braking system.

Hopefully my windshield will not have a crack. I'm not looking forward to trips to the dealer to fix things that do not work. On my last Sightseer while under warranty, the hot water heater worked only intermittently. I took it to the dealer for repairs and after waiting several weeks I was told that it was coach batteries that were not fully charged. I drove it home and tried to light the water heater. It did not work. I called the dealer and started to get run arround. I changed tactics. I apologized and said that I must not understand how to operate the water heater. The dealer invited me to return immediately and they would teach me how to light the water heater. They sent out their water heater specialist and he tried to show me how to operate it. After several tries he said "I'll be %¿#!" it doesn't work. He tested and replaced the control board. Had I argued with them I would have waited several more weeks for another appointment.

Safe travels in your new coach. JD

I probably should have mentioned that the crack was from a rock that the windshield took while being delivered. It is not a defect of installation.

2016 F53 V10 HP and Torque

Being a Ford retiree I still have some friends in low places at Ford, here is whats up with 2016 F-53 V10 HP and Torque numbers.
Short answer: New EPA emissions requirement for 2016CY applies to the RVs now (the specific requirement is grams of CO2 per brake horse-power-hour). To meet this requirement, the V10 output needed to be reduced. The engine and trans (hardware) are capable of carryover performance; The change to meet this EPA emissions requirement is the base causal factor.

this is gonna suffer towing max gvwr... I thought they needed more power
at 362hp... often wondered when a bb chevy can make 4000 hp ,.. why they don't make a 500 or 600 hp engine

the government explains it

As far as wind noise, I had the same issue with my 2015 Winnie. Turns out that the weep hole covers fall out on all of them. After installing 6 news ones and making sure they won't come off again the noise is greatly reduced. I noticed a brand new tour with at least half the weep hole covers missing. I just used 3m emblem tape and they are not coming off again.

Personally I would add the Roadmaster Rear Sway Bar, Safety Plus or RSS and a set of Centramatic wheel balancers, then adjust your air pressure accordingly and you will be amazed.

Roadmaster put a rear sway bar on my 2016 F-53 chassis.

Roadmaster didn't have a sway bar designed for the 2016 chassis and my dealership couldn't get the 2015 sway bar to fit. The supplier for my dealership called Roadmaster and Roadmaster sent a team the 50 miles from their offices to my dealership to look at the new chassis. They brought a sway bar designed for a Tiffin with them. They were able to install the Tiffin sway bar on my coach and they got the data they needed to design a sway bar for the 2016 chassis.

Safe travels. JD
