Magic spell? Pull a lever? Fuse panel access

What’s the trick that gets me into the fuse panel located at the drivers left foot? There has to be a way. I’m a pretty nimble 58 and there is no way I’m sliding into that position without paying for it. At least a few days worth of pain.

I have a 2007 F53 with a 2008 Win. Sightseer on it. Yesterday I was replacing some broken clearance lights. While determining the + and - I accidentally shorted one out and blew the fuse.

On another thought, does anyone know where that fuse is? Clearance lights aren’t listed in the fuse diagrams.

Thanks in advance

Worse design ever!!!! It's definitely designed for a vehicle with a door to access. There is not a good way unless you're willing to unbolt the driver seat.

I have the same problem with our Sunstar and a blown acc fuse for the power mirrors.

Depending on your dash construction, and the fuse that's blown, you might be able to take the top of the dash off and see the fuse block from the top. I was in there for other reasons and noticed the top of the block, and was fortunate that the blown fuse was in the top row.

Got it.

First the Houdini act. I pulled out the cup holders that sit in front of the radio. Then rotated and slide the chair back. That was the best I could do. Reall, the cup holder made the most room.

As for the fuse, the clearance lights are fuse #6in the engine compartment box. 20 amp. They call it the running light fuse.

So now to steal my own thread. Part of getting into the drivers side was to attach an OBD reader. I gather it’s on the right side of the steering column way up high. .???? Couldnt find it. Anyone know what I should be looking for? I gather it has a cover . If you have attached to it is there spare wire to pull it down lower?

Thanks

It’s actually not that far up and should have a cover. I looked and looked the first time I was searching and almost gave up because the cover I kept reaching past “couldn’t be it” but it was.

As for getting into the fuse panel. When I need to pull power I go in there with an add-a-fuse (look them up on Amazon). I think I’ve got about 4 of them in there now for various things.

Ill remember that. Ive been under once before looking with a mirror but nothing. Just heading out of town so Ill check when we get back.

Thanks

BTW i have one of those fuse doublers that i used to power the DLRs when I imported the RV into Canada. They work very well.

Perhaps Ford Technical Service Bulletin Q-178 (attached) will help you find the OBDII port:

What is it about ford/me

I know this is a Winnie problem as it’s them that (sounds like poor English) didn’t move the plug.

I have found that members here always seem to find Ford info when I can’t. I went to ford and looked up numerous searches. Nothing. It has to be me but.....

Can I ask what site you checked or the search pattern you used?

Thanks

I also ment to say

That’s cool. A very good picture and lots of spare cable. I might relocate it if I can get it off the colum easily. It’s kind of hard to tell by the picture but it looks like a plastic clip just aft the plug.

I’ve recently bought into the FORScan app. I haven’t used it and expect I’ll never use it too it’s potential but they look knowledgeable with good support if I run into questions or problems.

I left mine in place and bought an OBDII extension cable.

Two sources I use often:

Ford Body Builder Advisory Service
Ford Fleet Services (particularly the Parts and Service section)

Very nice.

These are awesome. I just added them to my RV bookmarks. Before I jumped in the car I quickly poked my head under th dash. Bingo. Right there in front of my eyes. Literally.

Thanks again for all the info

I’m going to start a new odb2 post

I’m going to start a new odb2 post so it doesn’t get mixed up with this one about fuses. I found, removed and mounted it in a new location. Picture included in the new post

Thanks
