Louder turn signal flasher?
Morning All,
Will anyone please confirm that the Model 262 louder sounding turn signal flasher from the "Turn signal Store" is the correct replacement device for my 2001 Winnebago Journey?
1. will it fit?
2. will it work to increase the sound to a reasonablly high level?

First of all, where is your present flasher?
Turn your flashers on and then walk around the coach to listen for the loudest sound ... my flasher is located on the back wall of the very last compartment on the driver's side ...

If you don't find the answer you're looking for, and you have a two prong flasher under the dash in the fuse panel, there is a way to make your own if you're OK with soldering.

In my old 97 Dodge diesel I always complained that I couldn't hear the flasher. I went to Radio shack and bought a piezo chime for 11$ and soldered it to the flasher blades. Then, I bought an 02 Dodge and had to break into the electronic flasher and find the outputs and solder in the chime. In both cases the piezo chime worked great and an easy fix. If you do this remember the chime is polarity sensitive.

What is the "turn signal store"? I have a 1996 Sunseeker on an E-350 chassis and I cannot hear or see my turn signals. If I sit up and lean over I can see them, but under normal driving conditions I cannot tell if I have forgotten to turn them off and they are still blinking. Is there something simple that could be added so I could hear them? Is it something I could get a friend to install or would I need to go to an automotive shop? Thanks!

Skigramp- w/your flasher unit in the rear of the coach, if you wanted to make a better flasher sound in the cab I'd suggest a standard Bosch type relay (NAPA or Autozone, ask at the counter) off the front turn signals to run a Radio Shack noise maker like Paul's at the dash. You could tap both Lt & Rt signal wires, combine them to the 85 coil spade on the relay, put a 1A fuse in line off the 86 coil spade then to ground. Take 12V source to the 30 spade on relay, then a wire off the 87 spade (this is the switched spade) to your noise maker then to ground. I like a fuse on the load (noise maker) side of the circuit also, fuse size would depend on the ohm resistance of the noise maker, probably 10A would be a good guess for workable fuse size, smaller may be more appropriate but you'd have to know the ohms first.
On some rigs the noise maker of the flasher isn't so straight forward. On mine for example the 'click' comes from a speaker built into & behind the speedometer. If that dies, I can either send the speedo into the mfgr for repair (same speaker is also the alarm for jacks down, gen slide out, chassis air low, etc.) or bypass the speedo setup w/a new relay controlled noise maker (like Paul did by getting into some board circuitry).

A few years ago, I used the Radio Shack piezo chimes on a couple of cars. I found the basic chime so loud on 12V that I had to put series resistors in to the wiring so that it could be heard in the vehicle, but not 3 miles away! RS has three or four different piezo chimes. I just went for the cheapest. They were only about $5 then.
I just spliced mine into the wires going from the flasher unit out to the signal lights and put one in each side. The other terminal on the chime was locally grounded. I think the chime was marked for + and - connections.

Rather than add sound, I added another pair of turn signal indicator lights, in a much more conspicuous location, as high as possible on the dash. I bought Radio Shack LEDs and installed them in parallel with the current panel lights. Works fine for me.

The way I'd do it is to visit a truck stop.
But before you go there, LOCATE the flasher,, If it is a mechanical flasher you will both hear and feel it flash if you lightly touch it.
Now, go to the truck stop, PULL the flasher and take it inside with you
There are but two kinds of flashers, 2 wire and 3 wire
The truck stop carries some LOUD!!!! ones.
Get the same pin configuration
The truck stop units are what are termed "Heavy Duty"
This means they will flash a single lamp, 1157 or equivelent,
Or they will falash 20 of them (or more) equally well.
The one in your coach may or may not be so ... adaptable.

^ You jogged a memory loose. I do remember "heavy duty" units being louder.

EngineerMike ...
I can't see the Freightliner turn indicators (they are hidden behind the steering wheel and my hands when I drive) ... so I tapped into the wiring to the indicators ... installed some Radio Shack LEDs where I can see them ...
That keeps me from being a COF driving down the road for 20 miles with my turn signal on ... I generally catch it in 4 or 5 miles ...

Thank you one and all for the help with my inability to hear the turn signal flasher. I will do the "Truck stop trick" for both our MH and our cars.

I have one of those old verbal turn signal warning sounds. It speaks, "TURN SIGNAL," in a real loud obnoxious voice about 15 blinks after I make my turn. It is placed in the passenger seat and has worked for every vehicle I have ever owned.
I believe it may be a sort of replica of what Mr D has.
(Now I'm going to be in trouble again.)
