Kingdome Replacement

I'm sick of the "Thing" mounted on top of my rig. The problems of getting it to setup and the lack of a picture during a rain shower are past the point of irritation.
I'm thinking of the Winegard Tvlr but the are 2 different models with a cost diff on Amazon of about $200.
Any suggestions?
By the way. there will be a Kingdome in motion dish for sale shortly!

I used to hate having to "make excuses" for why my dome satellite system couldn't lock onto a signal; the Winegard eliminated all that.

As for there being two different Trav'ler systems, first of all there are different models for DirecTV and Dish, and the DirecTV one costs a few hundred dollars more. In addition, for DirecTV there is the SK-3005 which has been sold for several years and there is the new SWM model which is priced a few dollars higher. IMHO there is no point to buying an SK-3005 unless the dealer upgrades it to SWM during the installation. SWM is the way DirecTV is going for all new installations, but there are lots of dealers eager to get rid of the older SK-3005 system.

Replaced the Kingdome on our previous coach with a Trav'ler and just replaced the Trac Vision on the coach we now have with a Trav'ler. No comparison. Finds bird quickly, no rain fade (unless you have a seriously heavy downpour) and generally works flawlessly. The one for Dish is cheaper than the one for Direct HD.

I did have the Winegard on my 08 Voyage but listened to the salesman who told me the Kingdome was the best thing going. Not too smart!!!!

If you are speaking of when you order a new coach, I would think they would configure the Trav'ler for your preference.

I do know that you can convert a Trav'ler configured for Direct to DISH. I believe it takes about $200 in parts to convert. Assuming you can covert a Direct to DISH, I would think a DISH could be converted to Direct.

Pusherman has converted his Direct Trav'ler to DISH so he may chime in with the specifics.

I switched out my Kingdome to the Winegard Traveler with the in-motion option. Best thing I ever did. It's smaller, it works faster and the best thing of all...it works always!
The one thing I would mention though, to those of you contemplating Dish...They don't receive the NFL Package, so if you have a particular team that you love and you want to watch ALL of their games, you're out of luck if you choose Dish.

If you have a Trav'ler with in-motion capability, you definitely have something I've never heard of. One of my friends drove all day with his Trav'ler raised but he didn't try to get it to track!

I heard the Winnibago has dumped the Kingdome and switched to the Trav'lr. I wish they had done that a year earlier

The Traveler is the way to go. The Kingdome was nothing but problems.

Yep. I converted my SK-3005 to Dish compatibility. New reflector, new arm, new LNB's. About $200 in parts. Works fine. Other piece of trivia is that the Trav'ler for Dish can only receive Western Arc satellites; not Eastern Arc. This may pose a problem for some on the east coast up in the far north or far south.

Interestingly, Winegard does not support a parts kit to convert a Dish system to a DirecTV system.

My only experience is with Kingdome. Had a couple of issues(really only one) but their tech team was quick and decisive and I was watching TV in no time.

I know you're going to change your mind, and I'm not trying to change your mind. Just sharing my limited experience.

Also I might be interested in taking your old unit off your hands. If you're willing?

Seeking

I have a KVH and direcTV. Once it finds the right satellite I turn the power to the KVH off. That will stop it from going into 'seek' mode if there's any kind of fade. The difference is between several minutes of waiting for it to acquire the satellite again and a few seconds of pixelation.

I don't know for a fact if this trick will work for yours or not. But it might be worth trying.
