I am gathering a few things to install my 50Amp surgegaurd.I didnt want to cut my present elect. cable so decided to purchase 3-4 feet to run from surgegaurd into motorhome elect.
I ask for 4/10, 4 strand, ten gauge wire cable and its about the size of a 30 amp. elect cable.
I have tried electrical supply and welding supply shops and yet to find the right elect. cable.
Anyone have a source? RV supply places want to sell you a $150.00 35 foot extension
Thanks

Did you try Home Depot or Lowes? I am sure either has what you need.

HD or Lowes carries 6/4 as #6 is required for 50 amp service.
#10 is only rated for 30 amp, and 10/3 is standard.

Yep, go to Lowes/Home Depot and buy a 50a appliance "pigtail." That's what I did for a similar project. It will likely already have a plug on one end, but you can remove the plug and use just the wire.

Hi Ho: Just to avoid confusion, the voltage rating is not an issue. Be sure to get stranded wire so you will be able to bend to fit. #4AWG is correct. Make sure the connections are well made. Use cable ties where needed to keep things in place. Be careful not to nick the wires or the ends will lose strands of wire. I like shrink tubing over things that might contact some other conductor.
Good luck, Dirk

Hi Ho: Whoops, sorry. #6AWG is correct for 50 amps. Sorry about the typo.

Be careful of 50A "appliance pigtails" as most of them are 8-2 6-2, instead of 6-4.
