I am not sure how to replace the bulb in the monitor light, (over the monitor). When I try to unscrew it, it only turns to a different position. I thought I should ask before trying to pry the ring off. I hope after living in this thing, this winter, I will have the unknowns figured out. I thought I had all the manuals, been finding I did not get all of them.

It may be the typical dome light style festoon lamp like this Festoon Lamp if it is, just pull it out by pushing to one end and then down at the other end.

Stearn,
Could you clarify what "monitor light" you are speaking of. I'm having trouble figuring out where the monitor light is in my 38R.

I'm sorry I should have described the type of light. The light is ressesed in the ceiling just above the monitor. It's about 3" in diameter, and you can swivel it to shine on a certain area. To me it looks like a miniature can light.

Mine burned out a couple of months ago and when I took it apart I discovered that it had overheated and charred the fixture. I didn't want to replace either the bulb or the fixture because of the overheating so I yanked it out and bought a two bulb fixture like I have under the cupboards in the kitchen. It provides more light, has easy to replace bulbs and is inexpensive.

To answer your original question, there is a trim ring that must be snapped off. Then you unscrew two or three small screws and the light fixture comes out of the ceiling. Then the bulb pulls right out.

Thanks, Doug for the report.

This is a yet another twist to the long time standing joke

"How many RVers does it take to change a light bulb"?

The best I could do was 2 ... one to hold the light bulb and the other to drive in circles ...

Bulb changed, not at all what I thought it would be. The bulb was very small with pins to plug in. I was expecting a small spot that would screw in. There was some discoloring on the bulb area, but wires and surounding area looked OK. Thanks for the help, I didn't want to pry on anything without asking first.

Ahh Skigrammp, I just barely contained myself from posting a similar reply. Thank you for beating me to it.

I replaced my light fixture with a 12 volt LED fixture I found at Menards (Lowes, Home Depot etc). These come in a package of 3 with a small converter. You can pitch the converter as the fixture is 12volt same as your RV. These are located in the "under cabinet" electrical fixture section of the store.

When I removed the original fixture to replace the bulb I noticed that not only was the fixture burnt but the Styrofoam insulation was melted. Good thing the foam had a flame retardant added.

I used a piece to tapered wood (beveled cedar siding) to overcome the tapered ceiling. There is almost zero heat and zero power consumption with the LED light. It's a great night light too.
