You could use rv antifreeze and be safe.

Depending on which coach you have, your tanks may have heat ducts running to them, in which case water would work.

When I purchased my RV last February I drove it from FL to CT in extreme cold. It was around 15F during the night while driving and being a newbie, probably was ill-prepared for such an endeavor. I ran into a water line freeze which was brought on by the extra cold one encounters with the wind of road travel. My solution was to get a couple of drop lights down into the water bay area which helped thaw the lines and keep them from freezing again. My water bay is heated by the furnace but I don't think it was enough with the extreme cold.

I would not attempt it from the driver's seat.;-)
I recommend stopping in a rest area.

You could dump some windshield washer fluid into the black tank. It is not drinkable but I don't think is toxic when you dump. Cheaper than the pink stuff. I had mine freeze once right at the gate valve. A drop light does work good.

Windshield washer fluid or RV antifreeze. Unless you will be driving for several days you are not talking about enough to get worried about.

Most windshield washer fluid contains some form of alcohol. With the large surface area in a vented tank, the alcohol will evaporate and the remaining liquid will freeze - not an issue in the fluid jug under the hood that is tightly sealed and not vented. The windshield flud could be valuable for short term thawing. Good luck,

Well ? You don't mention where your traveling to or from so with that in mind, I leave here in Indiana going to Florida every year in late Jan. Last year it was -10 when I left the driveway. Genny running the roof heaters --Propane front heater on and I used and will use bottled water to flush and wash my face a few times till I land in Fla at a pre-determined RV Park to De-Winterize. so if your heading South you'll be good to go. If your staying up north then I would flush with RV anti-freeze- $ 3 bucs a gal-- not too bad.

To be save I'd use RV antifreeze to flush rather than bottled water.

If you are travelling to warm weather ... then it does not matter because the waste will drain when you arrive ...

if travelling to cold weather then you need to be take care that the waste is not frozen when you want to dump ... use windshield wiper fluid or RV antifreeze
