Fuel usage on gas generator

Ran my gas generator on my 2018 Sightseer for about 5 hours today. Any ideas on how mush gas it burns per hour? Did a great job with all the power I needed.

I think the 4K is like a half gallon per hour. I think I read that on the Cummin’s site. They said it’s cheaper than running the dash a/c when driving.

Got this from a dealer site:
Consumption at 1/2 load 0.3 GPH
Consumption at 3/4 load 0.5 GPH
Consumption at full load 0.7 GPH

Your Sightseer 36Z has a 5.5KW Cummins Onan generator. The specifications for that unit are:
No Load=0.35 gph
1/2 load= 0.60 gph
Full load=0.95 gph
The generator specs say that it puts out 45.8 amps. At best you probably used no more than one-half of that or less. So a guess, unless you monitored your usage for the 5 hours, is that you were running at 1/2 load or less and therefore used less than 0.60 gph.

Do you know of any adjustments/offsets for altitude? Noticed mine shut down running both AC's in 105 temps going from 3000 feet to 7000 feet last month. I never determined if it overheated, altitude or both. Runs fine since and never happened before.

Mine trips the circuit breakers on the generator in those conditions. I have to keep watch to make sure the AC's stay on and if they don't I have to stop and reset the circuit breakers on the generator. It's happened to us a number of times and it doesn't seem to effect the generator at all.

There is the small dial on the carburetor that can be adjusted for altitude but I think that that adjusts the fuel ratio and has little effect on the generator power output decrease because of altitude. Other than that I don't know of any adjustments that can be made for altitude.

After hurricane Irma, we ran our generator for almost 72 hours straight. We were only down about 1/8 a tank when we finally shut down.

I have a 2019 Sightseer 33c, we stayed on Fort Bragg around June 12th for 5 days. 4 of the days we had brownouts caused by the extreme 95 feet+ deg. Heat. Yes it was in June. We ran our generator with 2 air conditioners for 5 hours a day. We put on 20-21 hours those 4 days. We filled up when we got on base and filled up when we left base. It was 7.8 gallons for 20-21 hours thats approximately 2.6 hours per gallon. IT WAS HOT! No trouble with circuit breakers either. We did Not also run the microwave while the air conditioners were engaged.

I hope this helps you. We did change the first oil change at 36 hours.

Or put another way 0.38 gallons per hour. That's actually pretty good. What are the specs and brand of your genset?

I believe 5.5k (whatever the 2019 came with). I will have to go look for sure. We kept the RV in the shade as much as possible, we had mostly heat to deal with, not sun. We kept the RV @ 79-80 deg. We have Sun Magna Shields on all the windows, that really helps with the sunlight.

Yesterday I gassed up my new-to-us 2004 Adventurer 33 (wow!) then ran the Gen for slightly more than 5 hours. Had a professional detailing-cleaning crew go over the interior (they vacuumed and steam-cleaned everything), wife was doing wife-things inside, AC was running non-stop. The dashboard gas gauge didn't move a millimeter.

I've been following the debate over how much fuel the genset uses, especially related to MPG and fuel economy. Let me say up front, I DON'T CARE about the effect on MPG. Here's why - we nearly always travel at about 60-63 MPH. But let's assume we average 60 MPH. Even if our genset used 1 GPH (I suspect it's closer to the 0.6 GPH), at that consumption rate the effect on MPG calculates to 1/60 gal per mile (0.017 gallon). That seems to me too inconsequential to worry about, especially if running the AC keeps the DW happy when we're travelling down the road.

This spec sheet might answer most of your questions https://www.electricgeneratorsdirect...G5500_Spec.pdf

It looks like on Full Load you use about 0.9GPH.

Generator gas consumption

Most numbers look pretty good. I just assume 1 GPH of gas to be on the safe side as my gas gauge is a little off.
