Foamy Hot Water

Have just recently de-winterized the coach and we are on our first trip of the year. The hot water is coming out very foamy. Thought at first it might have been caused by antifreeze residue in the hot water lines, even though I flushed them until clear before filling the tank. When I winterize I bypass the water heater so no antifreeze in there.

Any suggestions as to the cause and how to correct it would be appreciated.

IMO, there was RV antifreeze, albeit a small amount that seeped into the water heater tank. Been there, done that. Drain the tank, leave drain open, then connect to city water and allow it to flush the tank for a few minutes. Cold water inlet is in bottom of tank so it will flush the bottom, below the drain opening, quite well.

Or there was a tread on here that said this is normal and it goes away quickly, this has been my experience in my last two motor homes.

Thanks for the replies. I think that some antifreeze may have gotten in as indicated in the message above. I've flushed many gallons of water through the system and the foam problem is lessening. When we get home I'll drain and flush it really well. Thanks again for the replies.

Its normal.....I get foamy water for a short time and I do not use antifreeze..its just air

When you fill the hot water heater it helps to open the Relief Valve until water flows freely. This helps reduce air in the system.
Possibly use a piece of cardboard to deflect the water from flowing over the propane and electrical connections.

Thank you all for you replies.

It seems to have worked itself out. No more foam and the heater is working well. Of course, we head back up to michigan on Friday. The weather back home is still showing near and below freezing night temps. We'll likely drain the heater before leaving and blow the system out when we get back. I'd rather blow the system out and not need it then risk any frozen pipes.
