Converter Question

New to RV. Have 35'6" 2005 Meridian Itasca. I have been told it needs a new converter.

How much should a new converter cost - part plus labor to install?

The cost can be avfew to several hundred dollars for a converter, depending on make and model.


Why do you think you need a new one? Has it been troubleshoot as being bad, or looking to upgrade to a better unit?

You need to determine what type converter you have. I believe your coach will have a 2000-watt inverter/charger rather than a converter. That size inverter/charger is very expensive.


My older coach inverter/charger failed a couple of years ago. Rather than replace it (over $1,000) I installed a Progressive Dynamics 60-amp converter to supply DC and battery charging. The new converter cost about $175 from Amazon.com; I installed it myself. If you don't boondock a lot, where you need AC power supplied by your batteries, a DC converter may be the way to go.

2X, on what Vince has said. If you have a stand alone converter/charger, then , depending on the output , they run $175 and up, and I replaced mine in 20 mins.
If your coach is equipped with a combination , inverter/converter/charger, then they cost more and install time goes up, but depending on access to the location , shouldn't take more than an hour.

But you do need to be sure you need one first, model number, and owners manual for testing , because they do have fuses or circuit breakers that need to be checked before you go to far.

The converter on my Dimensions inverter/converter on my Journey failed last fall. I called Dimensions to trouble shoot the problem and the end result was I sent it to them and they rebuilt the one I had for a few hundred less than a new unit cost. You may have the same inverter/converter I have which if memory serves me correctly the model # is 2000.

rdotson0, the larger inverter/charger was an option in 2005. You could just have a standard converter. What is the last 5 digits of your Winnebago serial number?
