Coach heater

I have a Winnebago chieftain 2000 35 U
COACH HEATER
Works well in high speed but not in low.
I am told it is a resistor issue.
Where is it and what does it looks like.
Is it an in line fuse.
Thanks
Gerard

Glad you're aboard Gerald. Not sure what your heater looks like, but check where the wiring goes into the heater box and then to the heater motor. Some of the heaters I used to work on had the resistor right there at the entry to the htr box. Best of luck on finding a solution. Enjoy your adventures and be safe.

Heater Fan Resistor

quebec36, Here is what the resistor unit looks like and I believe you will find it on the outside under the hood on the front of the hvac case.
What chassis do you have?

I found mine on the case that houses the coach body heater, which in my 2002 Itasca 34d is behind water heater which is behind right front tire and probably above transmission but not accessible from below.

mx08453, right on I was thinking about the dash heater not the Aux Heater.

I believe you will find more info about your problem at a thread "coach heater low speed u/s". It discusses fan interference and a remedy. I used a writeup in that link to gain access to my blower. I would recommend creating an access panel for access to the back of the WATER heater to expedite water heater removal to gain access to the coach heater. Please contact me if you decide on the access panel. I will describe the process. Good luck!

Hi to irv2 members
Does anybody knows the manufacturer of the motor aid coach heater blower.
Since I do not like the idea to pay 56.00 for the resistor , it was suggested that I replace the thermal protector fuse.
I do not seem to find the right fuse , so I would like to call the manufacturer and try to get some info.
By the way it is for Winnie Chieftain 2000 35 U. V10

Heater

quebec36, Found this drawing of you heater I believe. The manufacture's part numbers are on the right side. The manufacture is Evans and you can find parts at here:
http://comfortairgr.com/product-cate...rome-rv-parts/
Also if it runs on high I would not think you have a fuse issue. You should be able to look at the resistor pack and see if it is bad.

resistor repair

I hope that I have a picture attached. Radio Shack provided the 10 amp fusible link in the resistor shown for about $3.00. earlier comments detail how to install.
this pic shows a drilled hole and bent end. Not the ideal but it works
Note direction of fusible link when you remove old and install new.
Good luck

Nice fix!

Resistors do not have polarity. We usually put them in so they can be easily read left to right in the normal position but that is only for convenience.

quebec36, to help in the future the way I found the parts drawing was to google the Winnegago part number for the furnace which I found in 2000 35U parts catalog. The rear aux furnace is used in a lot of coaches and sure enough the second one I looked at a ,2001 IPF31B, had the exploded parts view.
