Chassis battery charging

Our Aspect has two house batteries and a chassis battery. When I have the battery switch set on House, is the chassis battery still being charged when the engine is running? The reason I ask is that the green charged indicator in the battery never seems to appear, it's in the black.
Now, the battery is at least 7 years old, so maybe it's just time to replace it. But does anyone know what the voltage reading at the battery should be when the engine is at idle and supposedly charging?

Should be at about 14 volts. The 7 year itch is certainly a possibility for replacing .

It's sure should be.

Automotive charging systems put out 14.3 to 14.5 volts, that's what a voltmeter should say at the chassis batt when the engine is running. Of course that is no indication of the condition of the batt, but if it's starting the engine, it sure isn't totally shot.

Checked the voltage today at idle, ~14.5 volts. I think I'll plan on replacing the battery next Spring. At least I know the alternator is working properly.
Thanks to all.

? Why do you have house switch on when running the engine.
House switch is used to run dash radio off coach batts when parked.

One reason would be to charge the batteries.
Another reason would be for house accessories that might be used on the road, like power-steps, etc.

Batteries will charge with switch off.
Everything 12v in coach run off coach batts already. Can be used on the road.
Only time I ever found a use for house switch is to listen to dash radio and not have to put key in acc or run engine.
