cb antenna location

Hi all -- I have an '08 Cambria 26'. I want to install a CB but am at a loss where to install it, and what kind to use. There is no exposed steel over the cab - it has a fiberglas wind deflector, so magnetic mounts appear out. What do I do? thanks

You'll need the NGP (No Ground Plane) type of antenna - like the FireStik NGP models. No place to mag mount means no steel (ground plane) for the antenna to reflect off of means no talkie only listen. The NGP antennas solve this fiberglass problem. Good luck!

Firestick has my vote. Used a lmG4 a door mount and brought the coax in thru my drivers door window and used some weather seal to close the crack. A little of the Rube Goldberg in me came out,, but I have a swr of 1.5 Good Luck

I have a 06 Cambria and in the same boat. I wonder if one could drill through the mirror support arms and install a firestick. The mirror arms on mine are wide and thick and I imagine they are fiberglass over a steel rod. Any one tried this method? . I don't know of any clamps that are big enough to go around the arm. Sure welcome all input

This is another vote for Firestik no ground plane antenna kits. Our coaches are different, but go to:
  1. http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=4180 to see the antenna mentioned in Minisprint's post.
  2. http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=4181 to see the CB radio. I use the all in one hand held.
  3. http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=4219 to see the external speaker for the All In One CB.
  4. http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showph...6&ppuser=11602 to see the head set I use.
The bottom line is that I purchased the external speaker so I could plug in the headset. I am the only one that needs to hear what is being said.

The Firestik no ground plane antenna kit does not come with a mount. Purchase the mount of your choice, from Firestik. The antenna kit chosen should have a top loaded antenna.

Thanks GARY KD: Some great pictures and ideas. One suggestion, those type bungees you are using are no good at all. They weather and come apart in a very short time. I would go with trucker quality. Been there done that.
