Battery Charger Question

I have a 2016 Meridian 40R and I want to connect a trickle charger rather than plugging directly to shore power while in storage. Should I look for a specific type of charger that's designed for the batteries in this coach. Happy and Healthy New Year to all!!

Why ? A 2016 model is bound to have a pretty sophisticated on-board charger already.

How many and what type batteries do you have?

I agree with Pasdad, you paid good money for a charger designed specifically to maintain your batteries. Now you want to spend more money for 2nd class?

I appreciate the feedback. Is it safe to leave the unit plugged into shore power for 4 months to keep the batteries charged or will this damage the batteries.

My coach is plugged in 24/7 unless we are traveling. Again, if they are wet cell batteries, you need to check and maintain the water levels. Allowing the water level to drop below the plates will damage the batteries.

I'm 99.9% sure that your coach came with a very expensive 3 stage charger/inverter. That charger should not gas the batteries and should work with the battery disconnect off.

I suggest that you use what you paid for.

Trynforpar, your coach has a combination inverter/charger which is a very good charger and will keep the batteries charger without over heating them. For the system to work correctly do not turn off the manual Inverter Disconnect Switch. To maintain the charge in the chassis batteries do not disconnect the coach or chassis batteries with the battery disconnect switches. The Battery Isolation Manager will take care of the chassis batteries.

Grtharris - when you refer to the Manual Inverter Disconnect Switch, are you saying that I should switch the Inverter ON when charging the batteries during storage.

ok to leave connected

your coach is a 2016 equiped with AGM batteries and a good inverter charger.

Should be no problem to just leave iot pluged in.

Trynforpar, I was referring to the manual rotary switch next the to the inverter.
The inverter does not have to be on for the charger to function when connected to shore power.

The inverter looks like the only charger. If the OP sets his PCS to 20A and uses a 20A 120v receptacle adapter he should have no problems. The inverter should already be set to manage the AGM batteries. The start battery will be charged through the isolation relay when needed.

Your inverter should be capable of keeping everything up to snuff from a 20A outlet. Set your Power Control Center to 20A and the system should take care of everything else. When you do the monthly generator run, turn the fire place on as a load. A portable heater supplement would help with loading also. Don't operate the start and house disconnect switches. This will defeat the inverter.

Happy new year to you!
