I have a 04 Adventurer 38ft. My Sony color back up camera system is working sporadically. I usually have it on while driving to see my tow car and what`s behind me. The camera will lose the picture and colored lines appear on the screen. After a few minutes it will come back on and work fine and then go off again. I checked the connections on both the camera and monitor and everything seems ok. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the problem?

Unfortunately, it's probably the camera. That era Sony color cam has not been very reliable. On the plus side - yours has lasted twice as long as mine did...

Give Tim a call at RVCams. He'll help you sort it out and provide what you need. Lots of us on this forum have done business with Tim and I haven't seen any complaints. Very helpful and easy to work with. Here's a link to his web site.

Replaced ours with one from RVCams. That was the problem.

Has anyone replaced the Sony with another brand of camera? There are other color camera manufacturers and price is very much less, but Sony has the unique connector and the camera is 8V, where others are 12V.

My backup camera quit working last year. Everybody said it was the camera and not the monitor, that monitors don't go bad. So I bought a new camera and had it installed. Didn't work!!!! Finally had to buy a new monitor and it worked so be sure which is bad. I certainly didn't need a new camera but I have one anyway.

Thank you for your reply. I will check into it. I was also told it was probably the camera.

Mine went also. Have a new one on order. I found that Lichtsinn Motors was cheaper than RV Cams.

Icamp, must be 2004 timing; I replaced my camera also with Tim at RV Cams. The R&R took about 20 minutes. Just don't drop the feeder lead back into the motorhome wall. The cable coupler is about 12 inches from the camera base. Easy fix.

My Sony works well, but in rain, it becomes so covered with spray that I can not see much. I have been looking for a shield or cover of some sort, but have not found one. I am considering making one. Has anybody done this?

I have the Sony also and for 6 years I have tried air foils, tubes, boxes etc; and nothing has worked well yet. I use rain-X and get about as good a view as any system I have used and it isn't great.

LINDSAY R... i have been reading about AIRTABS. they are supposed to help with the rain on the camera problem and increase fuel mileage too.
