Another Solenoid /Battery issue

I am hoping someone here can give me some ideas or direction with a problem that I am having on my 2000 Ultimate Advantage.
The battery boost solenoid is latching almost all the time. The house battery voltage at the display panel and directly at the batteries are floating between 12.7and 13.4
volts all the time, so I assuming the solenoid is doing what it is supposed to do in reading the voltage drop. Any ideas as to why the batteries will not equalize? I thought at first that it could be the batteries so I replace all of them. It is still doing the same thing. Any thought or ideas. Inverter/ charger??

What do you mean by floating? That is normal battery voltage and normal float voltage for the charger.

John, thanks for the reply. I understand that 12.7-13.4v is the normal voltage for the charger, but the problem is that the voltage in the house batteries constantly up and down and is causing the boost switch to latch in and out about every 15 seconds ,all the time. It has never done that before and it started doing this about 6 mo. ago. I thought that I might have a weak battery, so I replaced all of them (one battery was bad) That solved the latching problem at the solenoid for about a month. Then on our last trip the boost solenoid started latching back and forth just like before . Hope that all makes sense . Thank you for your help

I would suspect the inverter/charger. Does it do it when not connected to shore power?

I don't understand what is meant by the BOOST switch latching.


On my coach the house battery has a latching relay (solenoid) to connect/disconnect it. AKA salesman switch. But the BOOST relay AKA Mode solenoid is powered by the BOOST switch in the cockpit or by the act of turning the key to on.


Could you explain? Maybe your coach is an earlier or later era than mine. Thanks

According to page 57 of the Parts Catalog for your coach you have a 130366-01-000 EA MODULE - CHARGE CONTROL which interconnects your coach and chassis batteries as needed. You can see that B.I.R.D. relay on page 80 of the Winnebago R.V Parts and Accessories Catalog.

The Automotive Wiring Diagram for your coach will show you how that module is wired into your system.

I'm just now getting past the old blue three wire diode connecting the alternator to the two battery systems! I actually was thinking that the diode was my problem when the Trombetta solenoid failed. I've got a lot to learn and not a heck of a lot of time to do it.

Chris, thanks for the reply. I located the Charge Control module under the dash and the wire going to the ignition was pulled off. I reconnected the wire , so hopefully that will solve my problem. Thanks a million for your input

Voltage Surge

[My experience was intermiitent contact of main Solenoid, on my 03 Journey DL32
I removed, dismantled, cleaned contacts, applied Electrosol grease. also installed a small cooling fan aimed at solenoid.. Voltage for Coach & Chassis float 14.0 to 14.2..
No trouble since..
