99 Chieftain Mystery Switch

I have a rocker switch mounted on the bottom of the row of cabinets just above the sofa. It is not labeled nor is it referenced in the owner's manual. First I thought it may have something to do with the speakers as there is one mounted not far from the switch but doesn't seem to affect their operation. It is a factory install so it must have a purpose. Anyone with a '99 Chieftain with the same switch?

Possible, that it's a master switch for reading lights, or overhead lighting , so some one sleeping on the sofa doesn't have to get up to shut the lights off ?

Looking at the Body, Wiring Installation diagram (page 19 of the pdf) and Body, 12 Volt Wiring Diagram (page 4 of the pdf) for your coach, along with Winnebago's Wiring Identification Guide it looks to me as if it is one of two three-way switches to control the 'aisle' or footlights. The other switch would be in the bedroom vicinity.

Wiring diagram said it is a "Over Head Lamp Switch"

The footlight switch is located in a pod of switches mounted below the thermostat and A/C controls.

Actually, I think it's labeled 'courtesy light switch', but I could be wrong. (These older installation diagrams don't have quite as much info as some of the newer ones do.)

Here is a picture of the switch. Every other switch in the MH is labeled with the exception of this one.

Well, you could always take the cover off the switch and check the labels on the wires, since Winnebago labels all of the wiring every few inches.

My vote is still for the 'courtesy lamp' switch.

It doesn't appear to affect the floor lights, those lights have two switches, one on the bedroom switch pod and one out on the main pod under the thermostat. I will pull the switch down and see if the wires are labeled.

Why not turn on the overhead lights and see if the switch turns off one or two?

Done that Bob, I can't see that it affects any lighting anywhere.

Have you tried the switch with cabinets open? Maybe you have lighted cabinets?

I just checked and there don't appear to be any lights inside the cabinets.

The good thing about it is that it obviously is not a critical switch because everything works that I am aware of

Well, part of the mystery is solved. There are no wires connected to the switch and it looks like none were ever connected Now I am thinking the switch may have been mounted there for an optional sound system which this unit does not have.

Glad that's settled. Now you've got a free switch to hook up any function you wish. Use your imagination!

Well, that actually matches the installation diagram (which doesn't show anything connected to it or label it).

Its a grandkid switch, so that they don't touch anything important or breakable have them use that switch.
