Question 2015 winnie winnie onan generator

recharging the chassis battery today, I got to wondering: Which battery(ies) starts the generator? Can someone answer that for me. Must be a simple answer, the book that came with it doesn't speak to that......................Thanks, Mike in Tacoma

Typically a generator is wired to the coach (house) batteries which it in return recharges those batteries via the converter/charger.

Makes sense to me, the generator being closer to that source.

Thanks for your opinion, Mike

If you have a multimeter to measure voltages, put the meter on each set of batteries and have someone watch the meter as you start the generator. The voltage will drop somewhat as the engine starts.
I agree that usually the generator is connected to the house batteries.

This is an easy one. 99% sure that its your coach batteries.
1. Starter battery is the truck
2. coach battery are the two (or more) inside the coach.
Test for certainty: unhook one lead from the starter (truck) battery. Try to start the Onan generator. If it starts.... its the coach batteries.

Mike,

Also in Tacoma. Also have a Winnie. The generator is started by the house batteries.

If you have the emergency switch combining the house and chassis batteries, you can use that to get it started as well.
