Since we live in N. CA, we seldom have to use our MH wipers from May to Sept. On our present trip to The Rally in Redmond OR, we ran into rain on I-5. Turned on our wipers and they were not working. Bad timing! Turns out that the wiper module had failed, after checking the fuse that was OK. A good reason to have some Rain-X available. That stuff really works. Also a good reason to check your wipers BEFORE starting on a trip.

A just in time reminder. We live in So. Ca. and are leaving for Alaska thru Wash. on The 29th. I have no idea at all if wipers work or not. I've never used them! Thanks! A kiss to your ring Godfather

The wipers on my 2007 Sunova 35J failed last month on the way home from Williamsburg. Fortunately, they failed right AFTER we drove through a torrential rainstorm, and we didn't encounter any more rain that trip. I've tightened the nuts on the wiper arms which gets them moving again very slowly, and the rig is scheduled to go in for service next week when the problem will hopefully be addressed. And, Rain-X is now sitting in my garage waiting to be applied....

After talking to the Workhorse reps at the Rally, they advised me to take it into DSU GMC in Portland and have the wiper module replaced. We did and the actual fix was a tap on the windshield wiper motor with a small hammer! Evidently, the brushes on the motor can "freeze" when the wipers are not used very frequently. Another thing to add to my first of the month MH maintenance items. By the way, a tip of the hat to Dave at DSU. If you ever need any repairs I highly recommend these guys.
Now enjoying a week in Cannon Beach

Well Godfather, your fix turned out to be easier than mine. We're near the end of a 5000 mile trip in our new Ellipse. We too live in California and hadn't used our wipers until we were underway. In Oregon we hit a rainstorm. The wipers worked fine for 20 minutes but then became intermittent.

We were going through Forrest City and took the coach in for service and to fix a few things... including the wipers. The tech told me he just replaced the wiper motor. A quick check seemed to indicate that all was well.

Unfortunately, in Missouri they quit working again. An inspection revealed that the bellcrank which attaches to the splined motor shaft had stripped and was no longer engaging with the motor.

We're now in Northern Arizona and RainX has been our saviour but it is dissappointing that the "factory fix" was so shabby. I'm pretty well convinced that the original problem was that the bellcrank had never been sufficiently tightend and had stripped in Oregon. The tech only replaced the motor and tightened the already stripped bellcrank which only held for a few minutes before beginning to spin on the motor shaft.

Happy Miles

Rick, It really is frustrating when something isn't fixed right the first time. I've had to tighten up the nuts on the windshield wiper bellcranks myself. I quess that's the life of an RVer. Enjoy your Ellipse and be glad you are driving one of the best RVs made.
