What are these switches for?
As you can see to the left we have a 1994 Adventurer 30RQ. I was poking around in it today and noticed that the 110 volt plugs over the couch and the dinette have little rocker switches beside them.
What the heck are these switches for, please and thank you?

Without seeing them I would guess old style GFCI switches. If the plug is overloaded they will trip shutting off the power to the plug.

GFCI has nothing to do with overload. It senses a ground fault.

The only rocker switches in my Journey are for lights...maybe the little lights along the floor something not too noticible.

I do have GFIs in the unit but these are separate from the dual receptacles and right beside them. I will have to post a picture but right now I am leaving for a meeting.

A swatch is a swatch?
I would think that if you pluged a table lamp in to it you should be able to turn the light on and off with the switch, eather that or it may control a over head light.
Just a thought.

Terry,
I tried that route but nothing visible happens. Anyone have anything definitive?? The switch is between the light and the 110 V outlet.

could it have something to do with the RCA plugs on both sides of the outlets that would go to a radio/speaker maybe? can you pull the outlet out and see if it is connected to anything at all behind the panel?

If you go here Wiring Diagrams you can get wiring diagrams for your coach, but I don't see anything in there that would match that switch. I would suspect that that was a user addition for something, along with the 4 mini-phone plug sockets?

Those are not RCA plugs beside the outlet they are PHONO plugs , Mini's at that (1/8" in the old days they specify in mm Today) .
I would guess they either control those jacks or the light below the outlet, one or the other.
If you are near Upstate SC we can do some easy testing, I have some headphones I can afford to burn up (Meaning I'll never use them) we can plug 'em in and turn on the radio and see what happens when we toggle the switch.

It would really scare me if the previous owner was using such a small switch with 1/8" jacks (3.5mm by today's measurements) to pipe out 110v. While doable, that's still asking a bit much even to pipe out 12v. However if so, the switch would probably kill the power to stop any shorting while plugging in... common with phone plugs which is why they mostly carry audio and leave the barrel jacks to carry the power.

Tells you how good my eyes are don't it? I'll try using one of the multitude of cheap headphone sets I have here and see it that conglomeration of plugs, one on both sides of the coach are part of the sound system.
We have speakers in the bedroom that we have no idea of what they are hooked up to.

Hey Possum - They're all wireless and hooked up to the radio at my house but we have it unplugged. Good luck with your testing!

Went out with ear phones and that was a no go. But I wonder if somehow these are hooked to the TV set we never turn on.
More testing and experimentation shall ensue.
Then again I may just find that member of this august group that actually knows what these are and what these switches are really supposed to do.
Things eliminated as possibilities are
1) radio sound system
2) right hand ejection seat
3) computer hook ups
4) UFO intergalactic communications with the mother ship.
5) Beam me up actuators
Rest assured we shall find out what these are for.....

I had a 2004 Mini Winnie with the same switch It was part of the prewire package for a satellite antenna. It supplied 12 volt power to a spot on the roof were the sat antenna would be installed.

That being the case I wonder the reason for the four 1/8 mini plugs around both 110V receptacles?

At this point I think I would be removing the outlet and the light fixture to see just what's back there...

I will but being its winter and the rains have held off for a bit I have to get the tractor out to mow the lawn.
I dislike snow but I hate the tail end of our Pacific Northwet winters. Everything grows like crazy. My wife has Primroses in bloom and roses budding.
