This year we stay out west longer than usual. We had tempatures in the 20s. The slides on our 02 Journey would barly move. As soon as we got into warmer tempature, above 50 they worked fine. Any one know of a cure for this other that staying where it is warm?

HYD oil gets a little thicker in cold weather as does most oil.

Good point about the viscosity of the fluid. Also ours takes a little longer if the engine is not running.

I agree it's the hyd oil. When it gets cold, below 36 degrees our garbage truck hyd system operates slowly until the oil warms up. It's normal.

I suspect it was more a factor of low charge on the chassis batteries rather than thick fluid. That is definitely why they would work faster with the engine running! We normally avoid operating the slide without the engine running unless we really need to ...let the big engine alternator help with the task rather than just the batteries...

Thanks for the replies. We had the engine running. It just seems slower than it should be even if the fluid got thicker and at 35 degrees i would not have thought. But I don't have a better answer. Thanks again.
