I have a 2003 Sunrise, Ford chassis and am contemplating using synthetic oil - what is the best oil for an engine that has 23,000 miles on it. I see Mobil 1 has a product for trucks and RVS is this a good product to use and what weight should be used. 5-30 or 10-30.

I have a 2002 Adventurer on the F-53 Chassis. It calls for 5-20 semi synthetic. I don't mess with it, thats what I use.

Is a great choice... I use it in mine that has 83,000+ miles... Starts easier, runs cooler and withstands the heat here in the desert without breaking down.

I had been using Royal Purple 10-30 synthetic in my Adventurer on a Ford chassis and was happy with it. Am planning on switching to Royal Purple on my Journey the next oil change. The dealer changed the oil when I bought it a few months ago so I haven't had to change it myself yet.

We use Mobil 1 5w-30 in our unit as our Workhorse/Chevrolet Owner's Manual recommends 5w-30 weight.

I changed over to synthetic at 5K miles, and never looked back.

Mobil 1 is good oil and what I am using now.
I used to use Castrol but since the price dropped to a reasonable level for the Mobil, I switched.
You can't go wrong with amsoil, Mobil 1, Castrol or Royal Purple which also has a big following, but is more expensive.

Use the same viscosity recommended in the owners manual. The newer engines use a thinner 5w - 20 or 5w - 30. I would not try using thicker 10w - 30 or 40 unless specified for that engine.

When we were in Alaska a couple of years ago, it was time for an oil change in our Cummins ISL. The Cummins tech and I had a conversation about synthetic vs. non-synthetic for my oil change.

They love synthetic oil for use in Alaska due to its low viscosity at extremely low temperature. This means the oil gets circulated as soon almost as the engine is started in cold weather.

The tech saw no reason to use synthetic in my engine for use in the lower 48, so we stuck with whatever Cummins uses as a factory standard. (I'm glad we didn't have to buy 46 (or whatever) quarts of synthetic oil!)

My '92 Corvette did come standard with synthetic oil I suppose due to the high compression and high performance of the engine.

For the past 20+ yrs. I have used Mobil 1,
and at times Amsoil. Have read some things
about Walmart, Full synthetic. So I picked
up 5qt. container today for $15. or $3.00
a qt.

I change the oil ONCE a yr. In the fall before
they go up for winter, Harley, Winnie, boat
motor. And all otheer vehicles when the yearly
inspection comes do in Va. and a new filtr
in these vehicles 6mo. after oil chance.
I use the inspection sticker for the 6mo.
new filter change also.... Tenn.

I like Olive I use 15-40 syn. Royal Purple in my Cat. I use it in my Generator too. I allso use it in my hot rod. The plant is just down the road from me.It cost more, but well worth it.
