Slides not working

I currently own a 2005 winnebago journey 39K. It has two living room slides and one bedroom slide. We were out camping a few weeks ago and it came time to pack up and go home. I pushed the button to bring in one of the living room slide and got nothing. I rocked the switch back and forth a little bit...nothing. So I sat there staring at the switch wondering what the heck I was gonna do. I hit the switch one more time and in came the slide. Whew! Went to bring in the passenger side living room slide...nothing. Same thing. Uh oh. Played with the switch a bit and in it came. Same thing with the bedroom slide.

So my question: Has anyone else experienced this? I was thinking it might be the switch but then all 3 slides did the same thing. What are the odds all three switches are bad!?!? Any suggestions before a trip to the dealer would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only thing I can imagine in common to all three switches that would give those symptoms is ... DIRTY BATTERY CABLES. Clean the cables at the battery terminals and at the ground to the chassis.

I've had a similar problem. Pull up the step to view the pump motor and check your electrical connections. I've found that after 20K miles or so the fitting loosen up no matter how tight I make them.

And I thought it was just me!
I barely have about 4k miles on mine and it had done it since new. I never have to rock them more than 3 times though...

Deucenut,
Run engine when using slides and jacks. The Hwh pump likes higher voltage.

Good suggestion. Thankyou. I have never run the engine before and they worked fine. It seems odd it would just start happening out of the blue. But I will give it a try also. Thanks

Duecenut; Power Gear slides and levelers need to have the engine running for the extra amperage draw required by the system. In fact with our coach I must have the ignition key in the ON or Acc. position to get power to these systems. Concur sounds like a bad/dirty ground issue.

One other idea if the above doesn't do the cure. The big boy Solenoid may be wearing out, the inner contacts may take several hits before they let power through.

Do you happen to know where this solenoid is located? Would it be under the steps? I did notice on the last trip that when I put the jacks down, I had to push the down arrow twice to get the jacks to start. But at the time I didn't think anything of if.

Duecenut, on your 39K, the top two steps are hinged to gain access to the pump. I was just in mine today, I have a leak somewhere, but everything still works. I thoroughly cleaned the pump, solenoids, wires, etc. Also, I found out that that big batch of wire looms sitting atop the HWH pump assembly have nothing to do with the pump, there are only two of the looms that go to the pump assembly, so I zip tied them up and out of the way so now I have nice access to all 9 valves. it doesn't look so intimidating without all those wire looms covering it. Tomorrow, I will have my wife run the slides and jacks and I'll look for the leak. I'm suspecting a solenoid.

Check to see if there is enough fluid in the pump reservoir.

HWH System Leak

If your leak is from a solenoid, It will effect the whole system, (No matter which solenoid is leaking) The HWH system is all inner connected. I had a slide that would creep out and it was a jack solenoid that was leaking. Call Stewart service in North Indiana, they are an HWH parts distributor. You can order an "O" ring rebuild kit, rather than a $300.00 plus Replacement solenoid.
Disconnect wire connector on the leaking solenoid, unscrew the solenoid from the block. Make a note of how the "O" rings are installed, as some are square section and some are round and it makes a difference. Put some hydraulic oil on the solenoid and reinstall.. I have already repaired 4. There enough "O" rings in the Kit to repair 6 solenoids

Wow!! Awesome suggestions guys. Thanks so much. I will check all these out hopefully this weekend.

Doorguy, how do the steps come up? Are they fastened or just sitting there?

Is the reservoir under the steps? What kind of fluid does it take?

There is a 7/16 nut under the leading edge of the step, removed gives access to the HWH pump.

HYDRAULIC FLUID RECOMMENDATION
HWH Specialty Hydraulic Oil is recommended.
In an emergency Dexron automatic transmission
fluid can be used.
DO NOT USE brake fluid or hydraulic jack
fluid. Use of these can damage seals.
NOTE: Dexron automatic transmission fluid
contains red dye and can cause staining
should a leak occur.

Hope this helps.

Another ting you might want to do wile you are exercising your slides is to spray the slide mechanisms with a good silicon lubricant spray. The slippery the slides the easier they'll move. Don't use WD40 or the like as they attract dust and grit.

Lubricating Slide Stuff

Point of order here: If your talking HWH, Winnebago AND HWH will advise you, no matter how tempting it is, to NOT lubricate, spray, oil or grease anything on that mechanism. I know that when most of us see two metal pieces sliding on each other we oughta put something on them. Take the advice of the guys that know about stuff like that.
