SCS Frigette keyless/compartment lock repair
Some info that might be useful to anyone having problems/failure of the keyless/compartment lock systems used on some rigs awhile ago.
So on my, new to me, 2007 Journey 34H, the fobs on the keyless entry system just stopped working. No intermittent operation, just quit all of a sudden. The part number of the system used on my rig is 151458-01-000.
In troubleshooting i found that if i recycled chassis battery, large switch in engine compartment, the fobs worked for a short time. So i think i might know what can cause these types of symptoms. Old electrolytic capacitors.
I pulled the keyless receiver and opened it up. Sure enough there is one electrolytic capacitor. Scrounged around my component pile and found a suitable replacement. Removed and replaced the capacitor and put the unit back into rig, and all works as good a new again.
The repair is pretty easy. Especially if you can desolder parts off PC boards. Total time to repair about 1/2 hour and less then a buck. The capacitor is a 220uF 16Volt. Remember that electrolytic capacitors are polarized. So pay attention to the negative lead when removing and replacing.
I have seen a few posts of other failures and thought this info might be useful. I hope it can help someone else out.
