Roof Crack

A roof inspection revealed a 3 inch crack, curbside, running front to rear, about
one foot aft of the rear slide opening on the roof radius. Has anyone had one? What was your fix?

I had a much smaller break (but very similar) on mine. It looks like something struck the roof.....baseball, tree branch, ??. I put a piece of 4" eternabond tape over it and it has been fine. I did the repair in 2005 and there have been no additional problems or spreading of the small crack.

You could always get a fiberglass repair kit from an auto parts store but unless you are very skilled at fiberglass/gelcoat repair, the white eternabond tape will probably look just as good.

Take a 1/8"-3/16" drill and drill a hole right at each end of the crack first to stop it from spreading.

Doesn't the fiberglass roof have a 10-year warranty?

I believe that Winnebago warrants their roof for several years. You might want to look into that.

The manufacture of the roof warrants it not winnebago, but the do make an overlay kit to repair damage in the cove of the roof it requires overlaying cove from front cap to back cap.

Hi smlranger

Thanks for the advice. I am also going to stop drill the crack as "Midnitoyl" suggested then apply the "Eternabond" about an inch past the stop drill holes.
Sound good?

Hi Midniteoyl.

Right now my plan is to stop drill as you suggested then apply the eternabond as Smlranger suggested about one inch past each of the stop drill holes.

That's... disappointing.

So then... Eternabond it is.

We got damage to a rubber roof from a branch and put a piece of eternabond tape on it. Hasn't EVER leaked and still snug and tight. Great stuff.

Hi MntDriver.

Thank you for the info. If it has not progressed in 5 years then "Eternabond" tape should surely work + it should hold back any water leak.

I have one much bigger than that, looks like the PO hit a tree branch. It has never leaked, so I haven't worried. Until now. You can actually see where the roof is crushed a bit. May have to do the Eternabond trick.

Thank you for the response. I have ordered a 4" - 8 ' roll of Eternabond tape from "EBay". Probably will use about 6" of the tape for the repair & keep the rest for any emergency repair that may present itself.

3M #4412N translucent roof repair tape is not so "obvious" as Eternabond.

Ask 3M for a sample.

Hi Donavon.

Thank you for the suggestion. I went to the 3M website & completed the tape sample request form. I will wait untill I receive both products before I do the repair.
