I want to replace my old and sagging slide out awnings with a new AE with a weatherguard protector. I am worried that the weight of the metal weatherguard on top of the awning will cause additional sagging and water pooling. Does anyone have any experience with a weatherguard on slideout awnings/ thanks-John

I think that is the model that comes on the Horizon/Vectra (and maybe others.) Water will most definitely pool on the toppers and I'm remiss in not tilting the coach to dump the water before retracting the slide.

I replaced my OEM A&E slide topper fabric recently. I briefly considered ordering the vinyl with the weather guard but my trusted RV mechanic (he has replaced a lot of awnings) gently suggest I not use the weather guard on the toppers for the very reason you suggest....they tend to allow water to collect.

I let him order some very heavy, custom made topper fabric. The stuff is heavier than the OEM and they are tight. We recently had 7" rain over a 3 day period and I had no water pooling. I paid about $330 for fabric and installation, two toppers.

Hi smlranger,
Do you know the manufacturer and part number of the fabric you used?

Sorry, but no I do not. My independent RV guy has a RV supply catalog that he gives his customers. He ordered what is called in the catalog 'Slideout Awning Universal Replacement Canopy.' I had to give them exact width of my existing canopies and depth of the slideout. There is the name 'Stag-Parkway' on the bottom of every page of the catalog.

http://www.stagparkway.com/

The replacement fabric has 1" double seams on the edges. The OEM fabric did not had had torn at the leading edge.

smlranger;
I have replaced all my awnings with the protector, I don't believe it collects water any worse than with out. All my slide out awnings collected water with or with out. John is right on, tilt the coach and get as much off as possible.

Petro- Did you go with AE? Was the fabric the same as the original? I notice the new rigs have a darker colored vinyl that looks like it may hold up better.-John

SMLRANGER, thanks for the headsup on the stagpark slide awning!
I called my friendly ind. rv repair shop today (ERIC RV) in Va. Beach, VA.
and he does business with STAGPARK, and knows them well.
He said to bring the winny # and the vin # and he will order for both of
my slides, sounds like a plan to me. As it will be done before the BRISTOl
race in late Aug. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!TENN.

smlranger,
Who did you use to do your repairs? We have the same journey you do and our slide toppers need to be replaced also. $330 is sure less that buying new ones.
We could go to Eric is Virginia Beach also, but usually work with McGeorge in Richmond.

At last, got the two slide toppers replaced today at ERIC RV in Va.Beach. He said they
were of a thicker materiall than the original.
Have not hadd a chance to check them out fully,
As I was in a rush to beat the rain.

Price out the door was like $350. I am going
to keep 303 protactant on these and maybe
wrap the leading edge next to the MH with
eternabond!!!! TENN.
