This slide show and description should be a sticky. I've read a lot on here and the other forum trying to get courage but this one is, by far, the best. Thanks!

if you travel with pets, I have found the allure floor great, and for those with pets try creating a piano hinged trap door that goes over the steps, Man just that small real estate of extra space helps give the illusion the dogs have more space to get out of my hair!

Jimmccreary... excellent documentation of an outstanding job.

We had a new floor put in the living area of our 04 Vectra, and new carpet in the bedroom by Precision Interiors in Bremen, IN. They suggested using a Congoleum product called Duraceramic for the tile. I researched it a bit and we agreed. It's not cheap, by any means, but we think it's worth it. We were concerned about our large slide scuffing or marring the tile when we brought the slide in - I had talked about this potential problem with the Winnie factory folks in the past. We talked about the concern with the folks at Precision, and they suggested - and provided - several "slide glides" that we put down over the tile b/4 the slide is retracted, and so far have worked very well. Here is a link to something similar to what we're using at Tweety's: Camco RV Slide-Out Slickers - 40" Pair

Overall we're very pleased with the job Precision did for us - We'll go back to them if we decide to do anything else that I can't or don't feel comfortable doing in the future.

MD, thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind if I start noticing scratches.

To all,
appreciate your kind remarks. I just thought it was time to give back to this forum for all the help I have received from others.

carpet replacement with Allure vinyl tile: how to do it

Anyone wishing a more complete copy of the entire replacement process with enlarged photos can send me a message. The entire report is broken into 2 5MB word files, so your email must have this capacity.

best of luck to all in your RV journeys

Floor replacement

I started pulling up the carpet around the step well cover today. Part of this project is to replace the "pull up" step well cover with something that is a little easier to use. I have decided to build a folding step well cover which I saw at the Houston RV show earlier this year.

I was wondering if the rest of carpet is glued down to a metal floor like it is around the step well. Has anyone had any experience with replacing the floor on a 2001 Itasca Horizon?

Click on the above link to see stairwell cover!

Here is a well cover that made a while back (took some pix today).
Really simple, will go back one day and clean it up a little.
2 aluminum l brackets from home dept
Lag Screws (silicone the holes before putting into metal\wood)
2 Hinges
Fancy Rope (to pull her up)
1 Fold card leg table bracket (optional)
1 5/8 plywood (sealed for better water protection)
Laminate Edges

Took about 2 Hours to do, and really Easy! Unless you have an electric one..WISHES WHERE FISHES!

johnnyk,

Mine was glued too and it took alot of effort to remove. A sticky residue remained even after the carpet was removed.

ihbond,
Very nice idea. Looks great! I like it and I think the wife would like it too.

I have a dinette that is not part of the slide in my 03 minnie 29B. Should I pull the dinette benches out and lay the floring under it or just use trim around them. I want it to look right.

Erik,
I had a dinette too that was not part of the slide. I recommend that you remove it as I did and then lay the tile. It is not difficult to remove and reinstall. The finished product will look very nice. Also, it is difficult to cut perfect edges on the tile and you would have to cut many tiles.

hope this helps,
