I know there was a discussion about this a short time ago but no luck on finding it so, has anyone replaced the oem boarding handle on a 99 DP Adventurer (the cheap plastic black handle entering the coach) with one of those nice chrome/clear plastic lighted ones like on the newer Chieftains or higher end coaches? If so, can you tell me will the new handles fit in the existing holes and how did you run the 12v wiring. Did you use a separate switch for the light part? Thanks gang.

I replaced mine on my 99 Suncruiser with the non- lighted version Itasca handle I picked up at the surplus store in Forest City, IA. the top holewas able to be used. I had to make new mounting for the bottom. I plugged the non used hole with a white short sheet metal type screw.

The difference in the lighted and non-lighted handle was one has a light socket in it and the other did not. I never got around to drilling the hole to attach wiring to the outside light circuit.

DSouthw524: thanks very much for your response. Of the existing holes, which one did you not use...top or bottom? Secondly, do you remember which size handle you used to replace your old one? They make a 18", 20" and 23". If your old one is like mine I was going to use the 18". Any thoughts? Thanks

I think that I used the 18". I don't have the coach anymore so I can't check. I suppose the size is a personal choice.

Have you tried the Winnebago parts catalog. You can pick one up for free at your dealer. It covers all the parts that you will need to replace existing items, or upgrade to a model in the Winnebago line providing it will fit your stituation. I also thought it would be nice to have the lighted grab bar, but haven't taken the time to check into it. Low priority item. Good luck and let us know how you did..

Hi no18yes: I have the catalog right here and that is where I learned there are different size handles. I have elected to go with the 18" handle with lighted clear plastic center and chrome ends. Waiting for it to be delivered. I will gladly let you and some others know how I make out on this one. My only concern is running the 12v wire to the handle. Should not be problem as there is 12v right behind this area in the galley cabinet but you never know until you get into it. I think this will make the coach look nicer. Stay tuned and thanks for your input. Merry Christmas
