Well you won't like this solution. After numerous breaks in the cords in this 04 Journey AND previously in an 02, I replaced all the shades with new ones from Barnes and Smith. Lifetime guarantee, easy to install and no breaking cords!!!
Winn. is aware of the problem but this is an area they just do not care about. Sure it cost $1,000+ to replace mine with B&B but Winn. could do it for lots less.
Ah well, at least the engine and trans. work fine. hahaha.

Zimectrin, you recommend trolling line. Is that braided or monofillament? I was considering 50# mono, but wondered if it would not have enough friction so the shades would stay where positioned? I ended up stringing one broken shade with some nylon sash cord I got at Wal-Mart, which is working fine. It is a little thicker than the original.

Three letters... M C D

I can't say enough about them. I love them. They're worth every penny they cost.

Full timing here. I got fed up with restringing or paying someone else to do it. Finally took them all out and replaced with mini venetians and haven't had a problem in the last four years.

After the gromet hole cut the string I took the curtain apart, filed the gromet hole, glued the gromet back in, did away with day part of the shade. (a lot eaiser to string and I neve use the day shade)
Once againg it is all a quality control work on putting the blinds together in the first place. A terrible terrible job on the gromet holes

Agree. We replaced our largest window shade with one from MCD and love it. We just had 3 of the remaining OEM shades fail and I plan to replace all the remaining OEM's with MCD's.

I restrung two in 2004 and the repair only lasted a few months.
Then I restrung those two plus another one. At that time I de-burred all of the holes in both the metal and plastic holes. My grommets were apparently installed the right way because I didn't change them.

They have lasted fine for the last 4 years and show no signs of wear. Since we full time they do get a lot of use. The key in our case was making sure there were no burrs on any of the holes.
