Rear Ladder Installation

The rear ladder on my 2015 WGO Adventurer does not look right to me...it seems that it is "bent" at the top...looks like WGO pulled it back on top to bolt it into the roof which caused it to bend...haven't seen enough ladders to compare it to but the few I have seen looks straight....what do you think?

Jim,
Sure looks bent to me, as if the top mounting position is not far enough forward. The ladder on my 2015 Sunova doesn't look like that. I guess you have another issue for Forest City to take care of.

Good Luck.

MutinyGuy, I just when and looked at ours it is straight and actually leans a little into the coach. What does it look like on top where it is fastened to the top. Here is a picture from the parts manual.

Looks fine on the top...used the ladder many times to get up on the roof since I have 4 solar panels up there and like to tilt them....as mentioned previously I think someone drilled the holes in the wrong place and they pulled the top of the ladder back to match up to the holes in the roof thus bending the upper part of the ladder....Schlock work once again!!

I wonder what Marketing person came up with that slogan...

I'm betting that's the way it's supposed to be. They probably reinforced the cap to hold the screws and take the extra force rather than screwing into the roof and creating a possible entry point for water.

I'll be very surprised if it is installed correctly...waiting to hear from others that have similar installations...

Jim,
As I mentioned in my post above, I am sure it is not supposed to be that way. I suspect that the roof legs were mounted first too close to the rear edge of the roof which put the first row of vertical support legs too far away from the rear wall. Easy assembly line fix... bend the top of the ladder in so that the vertical support hits the rear wall. I bet you those screws have a lot of tension on them to help hold the bend in place.

Having had a 2013 Sunstar and now a 2015 Sunova I find that Winnebago's "quality control" has dropped off severely. Our new coach had a 10-12 item punch list of quality items to be addressed that should have been fixed before it even left Forest City.

Rather than have an extra set of holes in the roof, it would make much more sense to me to cut longer stand offs and install those. Should fix the aesthetics with no new holes.

If you can't get it done under warranty, the stand off materials are not hard to get and new ones would be a simple DIY project.

I believe that by extending the standoffs the weight capacity of the ladder will be reduced thereby setting a warranty/liability issue in motion. Jim has mentioned he uses that ladder often and I am sure he doesn't want to have that issue. If new standoffs are the fix I would have Winnebago do the work so they are responsible for any problems. I think Jim has mentioned on another forum he already has an appointment in Forest City for other issues.

Stand offs provide a little support, but not the majority in my estimation. The bottm of the ladder, whatever that looks like, will support the majority.

The bottom of the ladder has nothing more than a pair of standoffs fastened to the rear wall. There is no vertical support other than the lower standoffs screwed to the rear wall which would have to to be extended as well. These lower "standoffs are identical to the others. There is no support such as a bumper for the lower part of the ladder.

I agree that your ladder doesn't "look right"... (but IMO NO mounted RV ladder "looks good").

My advice is this:
Since nobody but you will notice, my advice is this: if it "ain't BROKE"...don't try to "FIX it".

Jim,
Just had a thought.... Maybe Winnebago installed the incorrect ladder for your coach and the standoffs were actually too short for your rear wall. Stranger things have happened

Hi, My Vista 26HE did not come with a ladder as an option.

I found out the right model and p.n. and ordered directly from Winnebago.

To my surprise, they shipped me rivets instead of srcews to mount & secure the ladder!!!

Anyone's ladder attached with rivets?
What type (size & length) is otherwise typically used?

Tricolor,
I suspect the reason you got rivets instead of screws is that since the Vista 26HE doesn't come standard with the rear ladder maybe the wood blocking that the screws are supposed to screw into are not installed at the factory either. By installing the rivets you are only gripping thru the fiberglass rear wall.
Good Luck!

If that IS the case maybe you should rethink mounting a ladder onto your
Vista.
BTW, IMO you don't really need a "mounted ladder".
A "telescoping ladder" is easy to carry and is more far more useful than a mounted ladder.
A "folding ladder", (although it takes up more space), is another option often used by those of us with no mounted ladder.
