Pricing

Pages 70-72 of the June Motorhome Magazine has discounted prices for Winnebago motor homes as listed by Camping World. What happened to the manufactures policy that dealers could only advertise MSRP
They are advertising among others a Itasca 36M at 27% off MSRP

Times are tough and rules are made to be broken. I would still shoot for 25% off the previously "discounted" 27% MSRP.

I have never been able to get an auto or RV sales manager to show me an actual invoice from the manufacturer. It is all smoke and mirrors.

Saying "27 percent off MSRP" without stating the actual price I don't think would run afoul of the rule. Stating the actual percent off price would.

If it's anything like automobiles, which MSRP do they go by? The one from the manufacturer or the one they print at the dealer?

MSRP= Manufacturers SUGGESTED retail price. I have not been into this hobby very long, but almost every dealers ad I have seen has been heavily discounted. I did not know that the dealers were not allowed to quote a discounted price. I was in the car business for 21 years, and we never EVER advertised the MSRP. Only if we were showing total discount. I suspect that RV dealers operate the same way.

When I was in the car business, we tried to operate in such a way that would generate repeat customers and referrals. I can see that in the RV business, repeats are no where near as possible as the car business. Many of you have bought multiple MHs, but most have not bought multiple times from the same dealer or even referred someone to the dealer you purchased from.

Let's face it, odds are, most RV customers will never buy another RV from the same dealer. If I were an RV dealer, I would try and make as mch profit as I could from each sale. I would not and could not operate under the premis that if I give you a big discount this time you would come back for your next purchase. I know somemwill disagree with me, but let's face it most byers move up on their next RV, and it's not a move to something the previous RV dealer would be able to sell you.

Very true Dave, but if you give someone a big discount, they would be more likely to come back to you for parts and accessories. I know I would.

Many people travel far and wide to get that "discount", and will NEVER go back to the place they got such a good deal because it's just not convenient. If everyone here would think back honestly, I think they would agree.

I was able to see the bank draft to get Winnebago to release the RV to the dealer. It was 30% off MSRP. Don't know if there is hold back moony & other incentives that the dealer got after the sale. When I tried to get my local Winny dealer to match that price I was told by them that the dealer that took 30% off MSRP wasn't making any money. Who knows!
