I have just purchased my 1998 Winnebago Chieftain, with F53 chassis and a 460 motor. we took it out the first weekend we have it. while driving to the campground after about an hour of driving the RV seemed to be struggling shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and getting up to speed, once it shifted it would slowly climb up to speeds 50+mph. When it was struggling the temp. would start to climb and then go back down after it would shift. On the way home I took a more direct path hoping not to have the same issue it did but not as bad but I did notice the check engine light would come on and go off. I took it back to the dealer and the basically said the could not locate the OBD II port to read the code and suggested taking it to a Ford Dealer which is too busy to look at it. while researching this I am getting conflicting stories on with it has a OBD I or II port or where it is located. does anyone truly know where to look?
John, I found that port but on the cover it ECC port. I tried getting off the other day but was short on time and didn't want to break anything tring to rush. Is that the same thing?
I have been reading that Ford keep any vehicle over GVWR OF 8000#'s still had a OBD I port in 87. But I called Winnebago and they said it should have one near the steering column.
I agree with John Hilley. My 97 has the OBD connector under the dog house, left side, right about where your right front would be. On the Ford chassis forum here there are better pictures posted. Recommended code readers are also listed.
